Data Merge Error Message "Generic Extended Parser Error"
When doing a Data Merge - I click "Select Data Source", choose my CSV file, then click "open". Normally this works just fine. However, I'm now receiving a pop-up window that says "Generic extended parser error". Anyone know what this means and any fixes?

Assign already-existing hyperlink to new text
i know this should be ridiculously easy but i can't figure it out.
i have an indesign document with several hyperlinks that are used repeatedly. i'm trying to assign one of these already-existing hyperlinks to text, but when i select the text and click on the hyperlink in the hyperlinks panel, it doesn't stick to the text.
i have the option of creating a new hyperlink for every instance, but isn't there a way to assign a hyperlink i've already created to the text i've selected?

Pictures print 1/4 inch too low
Using InDesign CC 2014. After placing a graphic in a picture box, position shows correctly on screen but printed output puts graphic about 1/4-inch too low on page and cuts it off at the bottom. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Problem accessing lessons for InDesign CS6
I have installed InDesign CS6 Digital lessons I have no access to the lessons. I am being told that my 30 trial is over. I do not understand. I thought by purchasing this book I would have access to my lessons so that I may learn to use InDesign CS6. There was nothing mentioned about a thirty day trial period.

Creating a multipage PDF that prints 2 booklets side by side?
Hi I am a designer with NO pre-press experience and I need some help!
I am trying to print a booklet that is set at 8.5 x 7 as a 2 up document on 8.5 x14 paper. My problem is that I don't want the booklets to print consecutive pages (right now they would print 1,2 3,4 5,6 etc.) I want them to print side by side so that when the sheets are cut we would have 2 completed and collated books.
I know that I could just duplicate each page and print that, but I am wondering if there is a quicker way to make this happen? We have over 100 different multipage PDFs to print so I'm looking for a lean way to get this done.
Is this possible? Do I need to purchase pagination software?

Apply multiple master pages to multiple layers
I have a document that has multiple layer and I need to apply a different master page to each layer.
Layers are as follows and in this order:
USA Pricing
No Pricing
Euro Pricing
Yen Pricing
and so on.
I have a master page created for each versions layer. I lock all layers except the USA layer and apply the USA Pricing master to that layer it looks great.
So I lock that layer and unlock the next layer and apply the applicable master to that layer and so on but, even though the other layers are locked what ever master
I last applied is the one that sticks to all layers.
How do you get the master page to stick to each layer without using the Master page override to each layer and making it become part of the page?
If you do that and then you have a change to the Master page on a specific layer/version you have to edit every page and can not simply make a global change on the applicable master!!

InDesign CS 6 not working
I get numerous e.g.
- The procedure entry point not found
- Procedure entry point for graphic panels is not found
- Procedure entry point for swatches panel not found
- Procedure entry point for datamergeui.apln not found
- Cannot load the OupputMISCUI.APILN
- Cannot load the text color panel.APLN
and others. Please help. Thanks.

Can I align information in columns to both the top and the bottom at the same time?
I can align the columns, but I've been unsuccessful at aligning the information in them.

Missing fonts
Hi All,
I'm having a problem with missing fonts in InDesign. They are the Zapf Dingbats.otf and I loaded them into my c:\windows\fonts folder but when I launch a file the was created with the Zapf Dingbats I get an error that the fonts are missing. The font is open type so I should be able to open it from a PC even though it was created on a Mac. Has anyone seen this problem before?

How to add " (Inch Mark) within each cell of my table?
Hello —
I am working on a catalog, and unfortunately have to re-typeset 80+ tables. I haven't worked with paragraph or cell styles in a long time and can't figure out how to set a column to include a special character after the content. For example, there is a Width and Heigh column, and I need to include the dimensions for all the products. How can I easily add an " (inch mark) after each cell without having to go to the glyphs palette? I assume I do this with paragraph styles, however, not sure how. Thanks!

Can I create fill-in-the-blank workbooks in InDesign?
I am an Instructional Designer new to Indesign and before I embark on learning totally new software, I want to make sure it will meet my needs:
At my work, we currently have training curriculum that is paper-based and instructor-led and are working on redesigning our curriculum. We likely won't eliminate the instructor-led element of this training, but I would love to put the course materials: objectives, reference material, videos, visual aids, glossary, etc into an electronic format.
The current printed material that we provide to our trainees has space to take notes, fill in answers before group discussions, and pull together various information into one place to create scenarios as well as a trainee's analysis of a given scenario.
With this in mind, I am look to create electronic course materials that will: 1) allow learners to take their own notes 2)complete fill-in-the-blank activities 3)write short-answer essay responses and as an option 4)share responses with the group, similar to handing in a paper, in order to facilitate discussion. I would also love it if the material generated by the trainees could be packaged up so that they have a set of personalized reference materials when they are on the job.
Is this something that Indesign has the capability to do? Our trainees use PC's (one per student), but the possibility exists in the future to purchase tablets or e-readers for these training classes. Thanks for any advice you have!

Direct Selection or Hand Tool will not Move object with mouse! Frustrated!
Since this recent update, I haven't been to use my mouse to move an image, text, etc. I'm running CC2014 on my Mac, not running Yosemite.
I've tried already:
Clicking some key sequence when opening Indesign so it will clear preferences - did not work.
Restarted my computer - will work for a few minutes then stops
Uninstalled Indesign and reinstalled - nothing
Uninstalled full CC suite and ran the CC cleaner - deleted all instances of Adobe folder on my mac, deleted trash, restarted computer and reinstalled - This did nothing, same issue.
I'm getting really frustrated as I don't really want to use my keyboards arrow keys to move elements. Any solutions to get rid of this annoying problem?

Edit with not working
I am running InDesign CS6 (not cc) on Windows 7. Recently, the right-click > Edit with ... function on images no longer opens the selected application. It doesn't do anything. I did recently have to reinstall Acrobat Pro to fix the printing bug. I don't know if the 'edit with' problem started before or after that.

How to get lower case roman numeral page numbers?
Ok, an easy one . . .
Using InDesign CC 2014.
I created page numbers by:
- creating a text box on the Master Page, which is big enough for any size page number . . . this is in the running heads
- Type > Insert Special Character > Markers> Current Page Number
I have set the page numbers in the front matter to lower case roman numerals:
- Numbering & Section Options
- Page Numbering > Style > i, ii, iii, iv . . .
- Confirmed (drop down box, i, ii, iii, iv . . . is ticked)
The problem is that in the running heads, the folios are upper case: I, II, III, IV . . . (In the text section, the folios switch back to Arabic numerals, okay. And on the front matter, opening pages, where I am using a drop folio, it is lower case roman.)
How can I correct this?

How to nudge in very small increments
Hi all. Have recently switched from Quark XPress to inDesign CC2014. How do you nudge/move an object in fine increments?
In Quark it was option + arrow keys, and option command + arrow keys to move in even finer increments.

InDesign CC Server 2014 app.open() File does not exist.
I've set up InDesign CC Server 2014 trial on a Windows Server 2008 R2 and trying to run a simple script that converts a idml to PDF.
Here's the code
document = app.open(File("C:\inetpub\wwwroot\presentation\Documents\Resumes.idml"));
document.exportFile(ExportFormat.PDF_TYPE, File ("C:\inetpub\wwwroot\presentation\Documents\file.pdf"));
document.close();
I'm running the script in ExtendScript Toolkit CC and it gets hung up every time on the first line, open() method.
I've verified the path and permissions are fine as other scripts work that write output, such as this one.

InDesign, XML and GEDCOM - any advice for producing family histories?
I am looking for a revised workflow to assist in the creation of family histories.
Typically, the charts/pedigrees are created in a variety of software, all with a common denominator of producing a GEDCOM 5.5 file. This file is then parsed through proprietary software that we have on-site and then placed into InDesign and further formatted using findchangebylist scripts.
While this system works, there is no failsafe or alternate system in place. Given that InDesign can import XML (despite a massive learning curve of how to deal with XML workflows in InDesign) I feel that this may be another way forward. Does anyone have experience in:
- converting GEDCOM to XML (or know of any reliable conversion sites or software);
- similar XML workflows for InDesign
Is anyone able to point me in the right direction or give me any advice that will assist in using InDesign to somehow use GEDCOM data to prepare family history artwork?

Indesign CC ligatures turning on randomly
I'm having a problem with ligatures appearing uninvited in my Indesign CC documents. I'm an artworker and this is making me very nervous when sending out files to print. Quitting/restarting Indesign will generally resolve the problem. I haven't been able to isolate a situation that triggers this and I've experimented using different fonts, font types, etc. Sometimes I can open the same document 5 times with the ligatures appearing and on the sixth time it fixes itself.
I've trashed preferences which hasn't helped. I have turned off ligatures in the character panel with all documents closed. I've checked the paragraph styles of the documents that are exhibiting the problem and turned off ligatures in character panel, but after saving and closing the document, they reappear when I reopen. Quitting Indesign is the only way to (temporarily) resolve the issue.
I haven't run the latest update, but this problem has occurred across the last 2 or 3 Indesign CC updates. I'm using Universal Type Client 4.0.1 on OSX 10.9.4. Other people in my studio running effectively the same hardware/software are also experiencing the problem.
Any assistance most appreciated.
