Dotted lines have a white "background"

Hi all!

I have used colored dotted cell strokes with alternating colored fills in a table. Where the strokes are adjacent to or overlap the fills, I can see that the strokes actually have a white (paper-colored) "background". That is, between the dots I see white, instead of the fill color; it's as if there was the fill, on top of it a paper-colored stroke, and finally topmost, the colored dots.

Why is this? Can I change it -- if I want just dots on whatever the background happens to be?

The strokes and fills are tints of the same spot color.
