Shading cells query

I am trying to figure out how to do double table shading for individual cells (such that one cell has two kinds of shading, eg forward and backward slanting hatches, to indicate they belong to two groupings at once).

Suppose you have a four-cell table (2 cols, 2 rows), and let's number the cells 1a, b, 2 a,b; suppose you  want to shade 1a, 1b, 2a all one way, and 1b, 2a, 2b another way (say, with different dot densities in their shadings, or differently slanted cross-hatching), so that 1a and 1b will end up with BOTH dot densities/shadings and 2a and 2b will have DIFFERENT shadings (different from each other).

Is it possible to give one cell two kinds of shading? thanks.
