Word Space Being Inserted at End of Variable

Working on a book and using a variable to insert running heads automatically. The Chapter Title style has character style "rh" as a nested style (up to End Nested Style, to be able to truncate long chapter titles if necessary).

Here's the problem: If a chapter title is broken manually with a forced line break to make two or more lines, the resulting variable inserted in the running head is followed by a word space.

Here's the Chapter Title with no manual forced line break and the running head generated from it with a variable:

But if the Chapter Title has a forced line break in it, the variable has an extra space at the end:

What's up with that?
