I'm trying to output pre-separated PDFs from InDesign CS6 (Mac OS 10.8). My only output options are a laser printer that can't actually produce 2-page spreads on one document, or a device independent postscript file for which all output options are grayed out.

I used to do all this from an earlier version of InDesign using the Adobe PDF plugin as the PPD, with Acrobat Pro was installed, but I have the latest version of Acrobat Pro, and that no longer works.

(If you must know 'why the pre-separated PDFs': the pressman at the company who prints our paper has never been able to figure out the settings on his RIP to spare me this endless nonsense.)

Not sure if this is an InDesign or Photoshop question - maybe both.

In this screen grab, I have the exact same PSD placed in INDD over top of a medium blue box - with high resolution display turned on.

Image C uses the alpha channel and image B uses the Photoshop path. You can see how imperfect the alpha channel is in a couple of areas.

This is the Photoshop image - for clarity, I added a bright blue background so you can see that the alpha channel separation actually is clean.

In the end, I created the path to make it perfect, but why the discrepancy in INDD between the two?

Hello,

I am working on an A5 format brochure needed for print and I really don't know how to work with images. I've read dozens of posts and tutorials, but I have the feeling I am doing something wrong, that's why I am asking for your help. It's the first time I work in ID and I can't use my friend's computer for more than 1 hour daily to work on this project.

The brochure:

- A5 format, 6 pages

- 1 logo

- 3 images for full page backgrounds

- 1 medium image

- 6 images in small 6.2x4.3cm frames

- some text

I will use some images I took with my digital camera (3872 x 2592 at 240dpi) and some I found on the internet as free images. The issue I have is with the images for the 6 small containers measuring 6.2x4.3cm in ID. I have the feeling the images I have are too big for those small frames and I need to scale them down.

Tried different workflows with the six images, but every one of them has problems:

1. Opened RAW/JPG image in PS, processed the image, cropped, decreased image size by 50-60% without resampling and saved as .tiff. This will increase resolution and I will end up with a big file size (9MB). Avoided saving as .jpeg because of loss of data (however doing this will give nice file sizes).

2. Placed original image in ID and used the Transform->Scale to downsize it to the container size. The problem is the resolution of the image gets sky high and the pixels seem "crowded" (Changed Display performance to High Quality Display but still no change), which I'm afraid will look bad when printed. I know the resolution will be decreased to 300dpi when exporting to PDF, but still.

Q#1 What/how to do with those big images to make them suited for printing in small areas of a brochure?

Q#2 Not related to my main question: How does assigning the frame content as "Graphic" affects the final print output?

Q#3 Can I leave the colorspaces and ICC profiles as they are (RGB, CMYK / sRGB, Adobe RGB, U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) V2) and hope the printer will take care of conversion to CYMK or should I convert each one of them separately in PS?

I don't know if it's a real issue or if I succeeded in explaining everything, I hope I don't annoy anybody with my questions.

Unable to set bounding box using rectangle tool on small rectangles

I just upgraded to InDesign CC and keep getting an error message "Unable to set bounding box" when I try to create a small rectangle. The tool works fine when creating a larger rectangle -- it only gives me the error when creating a very small rectangle. Never had this problem in CS5.

Anyone else run across this?

InDesign CC Shift Key not working

Normally I'd just hold the shift key down to resize an image or object in InDesign CC to constrain its proportions. Lately when I try to resize an image, the shift key doesn't do anything anymore. It no longer holds the proportions of the image box. Is there a way to fix this problem or is there a new tool that replaces the hot key shortcut? Transform > Scale is taking way too much time to resize an image to the proper size I need it to be.

Any and all help is very appreciated.

Hello everybody

My name is Ismael, and I am working with InDesign CS6.
I am trying to print a document from ID, in which I have placed some Vectorial Drawings from Illustrator (and before that they come from Acad). The problem I find, to which I have not been able to find any solution, is that when I try to export it as Interactive PDF the quality of my drawing decreases, it´s like ID remake all lines and its thickness into the ones it likes most, and my picture becomes a completely different one, with a worse quality.

This is the way my drawing actually looks like while on ID preview. Exactly as I would like it to be printed.

And this is how ID prints it, after I try to export the document as a PDF (it doesnt matter if I try it as an Interactive-PDF, Printing-PDF, or If I try printing it with the Adobe PDF printer)

I have been searching hard all over the web, and I havent found any similar explanation about what might me happening.

Does anybody might know which could be the problem?

We currently use Creative Cloud Suite on persistent Windows virtual desktops (vsphere). I've had InDesign and Illustrator crash at random times on one machine (out of 8); I've done the typical troubleshooting of update/uninstall/re-install, but nothing seems to help. Default back to Typical Display Performance InDesign 2015.4

With the new GPU enhancements and updates, InDesign now defaults to High Quality Display on any and every document. If I try to change the default to Typical or Fast Display in Preferences, hit OK, and then go back into Preferences it's still set to High Quality Display.

A work around I found is to just switch the settings for High Quality and Typical Display, but I wonder if there is an actual fix for this.

Hi, I have 3 Mac with InDesign CC 2015 updated and users need to assign changes to file in a a network folder for others user with InCopy with Windows 7.

When user do an assignement from Indesign program crash and assignements don't appear; this happen in all the Mac.

Any idea?

Wrong file name when exporting to pdf

CS3 on mac

When I export my file to a pdf it keeps the old file name. Is there a setting that I am not aware of that I need to change. It only happens on certain files, not all. I get customer files in all the time and change the file names and would like my pdf's to reflect the new file name, without having to rename the pdf. The page information is correct that is stamped on the pdf.

I'm wondering if anyone has used an Indesign-Wordpress workflow before? My goal is to have the content and use it in two different products - one produced in InDesign and one produced as a Wordpress site.

I've been digging but haven't found any solidly promising. There's always the chance I've overlooked something though.

Ideal Scenarios:

1. Create the content in some form such as XML or CSV and then import it into both pieces of software

2. Create the content in one software package and export it to the other

Any thoughts, ideas, or nudges would be appreciated.

Changing multiple box single colors at once

Hello,

I am creating a neutral gray test form in Indesign with 120 square boxes made up of only cyan, magenta and yellow, each box having differing shades of magenta and yellow. Cyan stays the same for all patches and black is zero (e.g. C 43 M28 Y28 K0, C43 M40 Y40 K0, etc). After copying this test form I would like to change only cyan for all 120 boxes without changing magenta and cyan at the same time (e.g. C 45 M28 Y28 K0, C45 M40 Y40 K0, etc). I have tried selecting all boxes and only changing cyan value but then all the patches change to the same color instead of magenta and yellow being left alone. The only solution I have is selecting each individual box, changing only the cyan value and continuing to the next box. After 120 patches and 15 test forms (1800 individual patches!!) this can become quite tedious.

Can anyone think of a better solution?

The latest update to InDesign (2015.4, Jun 2016) hasn't appeared in my CC desktop app yet and I believe it was released some time ago. I have a 'Creative Cloud for Teams' subscription and I've notice that certain app updates seem to arrive much later than normal. I've managed to download 2015.4 on my mac at home but the update doesn't appear on my work mac. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey,

I have been working on a catalogue for a while now, my indesign file was getting to around 300 MB - I'd backed this file up recently on an external hard drive which melted and died, more importantly I cannot open the master file on my PC which is the only file I now have. I will open the file in indesign and I notice on PC it will just freeze and show a loading ring where the mouse should be but I left this going for 5 hours and nothing, I manually quit out of indesign and then open and it then tries to recover that file, but also gets stuck at a certain point. On a Mac there is a progression bar at least but this gets around 80% and then gets stuck every time. I'm guessing this files corrupt in some way or that a small part of it is stopping me from opening it properly. This is a project which is due in soon and I've literally not got any work to show :S I've tried Stellar Phoenix indesign repair which has just been running for about 4 hours doing nothing but make my mac get really hot and am now totally out of options, can any one help moi??

Bug - Indesign CC 11.4 - two inner glows cause image to disappear

I've tested this file in InDesign 11.0 and also the latest version of InDesign CC - and it's the latest version of CC that's causing me angst.

To note - it appears to be a display issue in InDesign - as it exports and prints fine.

Since the last upgrade in InDesign, some images that are placed in objects with FX applied with 2 inner glows will not show up. They only show up under View>Proof Colours.

Sidenote:

When I tick the Proof Colours, that's fine. It shows up. When I close the document and reopen, the Proof Colours is turned off again. I've tried turning on Proof Colours with no documents open - but it doesn't stick.

Why can't I have Proof Colours always turned on for the document?

I've opened the file on an older version of InDesign CC and it works just fine, no need to click anything.

Screen shots of the difference of having Proof Colours on and Proof Colours turned off - as you can see the graphic is missing (don't worry I assure you it's missing)

I have rolled back to 11.0 and this file works fine, but in 11.4 it does not.

To recreate

Create a Graphic Frame

Fill with a gradient (anything light)

Stroke a colour

File>Place and AI file into the graphic frame.

On the graphic frame:

FX - Object

Drop Shadow

Inner Glow - 5px

FX - Fill

Drop Shadow

Inner Glow - 5px

Once the 2nd inner glow is applied the image is disappearing.

Can anyone else confirm this?
