Dear Sir,
Please give me your support for: How to export as a single text file form Indesign CC.
Sometimes a particular InDesign file may behave badly (if all your files are doing strange things, see Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences ). In such cases the first thing to try is export to .inx if you have CS, CS2 or CS3(InDesign Interchange format) by selecting File > Export… and choosing .inx from the file type dropdown, or if you have CS5 or later export to .idml. The resulting file should then be opened in ID and saved as a NEW .indd file.
Interchange format was set up to allow users to open files in a version of ID one release earlier (minus, of course, new features) than the one in which they were created. It reduces the file to the bare minimum of information needed to recreate the layout, and as a side effect it often strips out minor corruption that will cause strange behavior but is not bad enough to prevent the file from opening. Other things Interchange Format can help with are removal of stubborn unused swatches and references to missing plugins.
The .idml (InDesign Markup) format was introduced in CS4 and in that version you have your choice (.inx is listed as CS3 interchange) and is the replacement for .inx going forward. My non-scientific intuition says that .idml is slighlty less effective than .inx at solving problems, so I would opt for .inx in CS4 as my first choice, but I also would not dismiss .idml out of hand if I suspect document corruption.

Hi
Is it possible to set the Bleed setting to always be on by default when packaging my document or exporting as a PDF?
Every job we produce requires Bleed to be added - would be great if we didn't have to manual worry about this all the time!
kind regards
Andi
I thought I'd seen everything in InDesign but this is new to me. I search for missing fonts in my document and got the following message:
The selected font is applied to hidden conditional text, or applied to text in a locked story, or is part of a composite font. Some instances of the font may not be found, or may not be changed.
The problem is there is no conditional text and no locked stories in the document and I have no idea what a composite font is. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate their feedback
I can't open InDesign on my computer. I have Windows 10. I'm running a trial version,
everything seems fine from Creative Cloud, period hasn't expired, software is installed.
Yet I get these annoying boxes when I try to open the program.
First box:
Access is denied
Second box:
Unable to launch Adobe InDesign as you lack sufficient
permissions to access the preferenced folders. Ensure that you
have appropriate permissions and then restart Adobe InDesign.
That's a blatant lie! I HAVE access to the folders and InDesign.
Been fiddling with the security options for an hour no, it is not the problem.
Please, please, please is there a kind soul on here with the answer?I have an assignment due any day now.
I cannot get any work done while the program is down.
Dear all
I have published online following two documents
With sound
https://indd.adobe.com/view/ae756550-4600-4158-8568-0d2f5f46f4b9
Without sound
https://indd.adobe.com/view/6240c03a-368a-4c2e-8790-6a4dfe694117
These two are same and only difference is one contains sound while the other is without sound.
These are working fine on computers but the only problem is when I visit the link containing sound on cell phone or iPad there is no sound and only animations appear.
Same as when I export this InDesign file containing sound as SWF file all animation stops which appears after sound.
Your help in this regard will be highly appreciated.
I can provide you the working InDesign files if you wants.
Waiting anxiously for your reply
Thanks and regards
Publish Online (Preview) is a technology preview feature that is available in English versions of InDesign CC 2015. The feature lets you effortlessly publish InDesign documents online. These documents can then be viewed with full fidelity in a desktop or tablet web browser with a delightful viewing experience, and without requiring a plug-in. If a richer document experience is desired, you can add buttons, slideshows, animation, audio, and video using the interactive authoring features of InDesign before publishing the document online.
The published document is intended to be a digital version of an InDesign document that will simply work on all devices that support a web browser. You can email the published document URL or simply share it on Facebook.
Try publishing a finished document by clicking the Publish Online button on the Application Bar or you can also choose File -> Publish Online (Preview)..To access or manage all your published documents, choose File -> Web Dashboard..For more details, see online help.
After trying it out, please give us feedback on the feature by filling this survey - https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PublishOnline_Survey
Sometimes when I apply another swatch (to see what it looks like) and then switch back to the original gradient swatch, the starting positions of the lines or circles are moved. Just unchecking and checking the preview checkbox has the same effect.
Howcome? Is the position where the gradient "begins" recalculated, and if so, why is the result different from before?
The two circles below are the same size and have the same gradient swatch applied as stroke, but the yellow colour (right-most in the "gradient ramp") is just barely visible on the left circle. Why are they not affected in the same way?
If I select the left circle and reapply the swatch it becomes the same as the right one.
Is there a way to import a column from an excel spreadsheet to distribute into a table in Indesign but every other row? I have an excel spreadsheet but there's like 2,000 rows so it would take a while to copy and paste the column cell into a row manually. Is there an easier way to do this? Thanks in advance.
Recently, I've noticed that InDesign is setting text boxes to automatically auto-fit content when I resize them. It doesn't mesh with my flow. How do I turn this setting off? I'm tiring of constantly selecting objects and disabling them. TIring of accidentally scaling images disproportionally. Please note: I know how to turn auto-fitting off. What I want to do is make sure it is not on when I add a new frame.
In the back of our magazines, there are pages called "resources" where spreads of different stories and where to find out items detailed in that story. Right now, I am having to export all those stories as a spread PDF. Which also means I need to do that every time there is a change. Is there a way to place InDesign files as spreads into another InDesign document? I saw a similar question was asked about eight years ago, but nothing really useful was said.
Hello,
I've read through the developer guides and can't find any language about Data Merge exports.
What I'm looking to accomplish should be a rather simple script. The pieces I haven't been able to track down are in bold below.
1. Open file
2. Select Data Merge Source
3. For each
a. Toggle Data Merge
b. Save as InDesign file (name defined by column 1 in data merge underlying file)
c. Export to PDF (name defined by column 1 in data merge underlying file)
4. Next
5. Close file
// defines the csv file to use for dataMerge var csvFile = File('filepath'); // defines the csv file to use for dataMerge var exportLocation = File('filepath'); // opens InDesign template app.open(File("filepath")); //defines myDoc var myDoc = app.activeDocument // loads defined csv file as datamerge app.activeDocument.dataMergeProperties.selectDataSource(csvFile,); //runs loop For each //datamerge record //preview //save as indesign //export as pdf Next
Would appreciate any help or thoughts on this. Thank you.
I think the titles tells it pretty much. I've tried the same thing in CC 2015 and don't have that slow down. If I'm in 2017, I copy text from one document, move to the second document, select some text, paste without formatting to replace the selected text. Easy enough you would think, but every time I switch from one document to the next I get the spinning beach ball for 20-30 sec (on a Macbook Pro 2016, the biggest of them all. It does the same on an iMac 2011 beefed up too for it's time). Like I said, no problem with the same document in CC 2015 (saved the CC 2017 in idml, then opened in CC 2015). And before you suggest it, yes, I've turned off the two options for type in my prefs in both versions, preflight is off, both version have the same prefs. So there is definitely something wrong with CC 2017. This is not the only issue that causes slowness, but it's the one that caused me to convert my documents to CC 2015 to work because it was just unbearable.
Hope you'll fix this cause right now, CC 2017 is pretty useless to us. All designers in our company don't want to work with it, and since the improvement in it are so minor, it should have been a dot dot release, not a full new version.
Jeff
Hi there,
I have been trying for ages to get the guides to match to my baseline grid. However, when I turn the guides on, the number that would equate to my grid don't show up. The guides only appear when they don't match the grid. For example, I am using a 12 pt grid on at 840pt x 840 pt page, with 3 collumns (24pt gutter) - therefore, the rows should be 3 by 24 but the guides always disappear at this point.
If I hover over the page the mouse notices something is there but it is not visible.
I tried turning off snap to document grid off, but it still does not work?
During recent updates, my default settings have somehow changed.
Now when I create a text box, the default text color is white instead of black, and when I place or create any object, it has a text wrap that I have to go back and clear.
How can I change these and other default settings?
Thanks!
Hi!
(Firstly, sorry for my english, I'm trying my best to make this clear)
So, I have this 1 year Creative Cloud contract that includes all Adobe programs. All of them work properly except InDesign, which I can not even open: it only says, "Adobe InDesign CC 2015 stopped working. Windows closes the program and notifies if there's a solution for the problem" (or something like that).
I really don't know what to do, never have had this problem before and I really need to get things done with InDesign...
I've..
- logged out of my Creative Cloud account
- Updated my computers operating system
- Updated InDesign
- Downloaded Dreamwiever (someone advised doing this, don't know why, but I tried!)
If anyone knows anything that could help me, please leave a comment. Thank you!
Please someone:
How the heck do i retrieve/create a DEFAULT "automatic, always set" offset padding around every graphic/object frame and LINES in certain templates i use/create.
it's not case by case text wrap, it's a default setting around graphics/photo frames & lines. I don't know where they went, what to set (i know where the Window>Styles>Object Styles window is, i just don't know what settings are, if that's even where i do it.
It's not a standard one a a time text wrap, that much i know. indesignsecrets doesn't seem to know either and the results there are as imprecise and unhelpful as the adobe site, but what the heck? maybe an actual person knows.
I can't even find what the correct terminology is since the logical terms offset space around, bounding space around and padding around an object or frame don't seem to be involved.
sheesh. does it really have to be so complicated?
Please, and thank you.
I'm using from years Adobe CS 6 Design and WEb premium on a SONY Vaio Laptop and A 64 bit Windows /.
Over the past few days InDesign freezes every 10 minutes sending an alert of disk full:
"The space on the disk is insufficient. Remove the non necessary files to free space on disk and restart InDesign".
As you can see from attachments, there is a lot of space un the disk.
In my attempts to resolve the problem, previously I had checked and repaired Windows files, then I had uninstalled CS6 suite taking care to remove manually all the files related to Adobe software, both visible and hidden. Then I had reinstalled CS6, but having no success.
So I thought that the problem could occur with a specific (corrupted) file: I checked some other files but seemingly there had been no problem.
So I followed the instructions reported in:
https://helpx.adobe.com/it/indesign/kb/troubleshoot-damaged-indesign-documents.html
https://helpx.adobe.com/it/indesign/kb/indesign-document-recovery.html
More, I checked the extensions installed: there are no installed extensions if not those of Adobe.
Follwing your instructions, I splitted the suspected file in two parts. For each of them, I rebuilt all kind of stiles and copied the content from the original (suspected) file frame by frame.
This work lasted more than two hours, but no error message appeared.
When I tried to rebuild the whole file, the usual error message reappeared.
I think that the content of the error message could have a meaning for you and so you could help me to solve the problem.
What do you suggest I do?
Thanks.
