IND CS 6: Duplicating images makes them look "lighter"?

Hello

 

ever since updating to CS6 my Indesign behaves strangely when handling pictures:

 

Once I duplicate a picture, it seems to loose some of it's saturation, thereby noticably looking "lighter".

This happens with copy/cut paste and alt+drag as well.

 

Re-embedding the pictures helps, but with 500+ pictures in a document, this is rather painful.

Unfortunately, the phenomenon persists all the way into the final pdf I export for printing.

 

I tested with both CMYK and RGB Jpgs, Psd & Tifs, with Effects (Multiply) on them and without, the same behavior everywhere.

Here's a screenshot of a duplicated image on top of the original:

I really don't know what it could be, any ideas?

 

My System is a 15" MacBook Pro with the latest version of Lion running (no Mouintain Lion), and the CS6 is up to date.

How to Remove All Index Topics

InD CS 5.5

 

I would like to use my old InDesign document as the "template" for the new one.

 

I have removed all text thread from the old one. And when I pressed Shift-F8 (to see Index palette)  I still see old index topics.

 

Until I delete these index topics I can't import the new MS Word document (with its own index entries) to my "template".

 

How to remove them all.

DBSharingShield and DBTmp

Is anyone having problems with these two file types appearing on your desktop while InDesign CS6 is open? Sometimes with multiple files open, my desktop is covered! They disappear when InDesign is closed, but is there a way to stop them from even appearing on my desktop? The files are DBSharingShield, DBTmp, and then a file with a name such as DBSharingShi2004491369389.

I am trying to make the first page of my project I am working on in InDesign have the same design as the one in Word. Can anybody help me with this? I am trying to make the yellow lines on the edge and botton you see in the picture below onto my InDesign. How do I go about doing this?

Snippet_3064049C6.idms

A file called Snippet_3064049C6.idms has just appeared on my desktop. Its preferences tells that the type is InDesign Markup Snippet (.idms). I run InDesign CS4, but I havn't installed any new adobe programs recently nor updated any except Adobe Reader - as well as Windows 7's usual updates. What is this file for?

Thanks for wreaking it.

 

Coming from CS3 to CS6

Because CS4 got it wrong

CS5 and CS5.5 both although fixing CS4 mistakes broke other things.

 

List of things that annoy

 

 

CS6…

Tried the epub output options based on chapter paragraph style.

I consider this broken although it finally splits the document.

 

I expected the .xhtml files to be named according to whatever was on the ChapterParagraph Style

Massively disappointed, no point using it. I'll go back to my apple script which splits and places in a book file

 

 

Capital letters in Stylesheet name no longer get converted to lowercase (spent 1/2 Hour working this one out) thanks very much.

 

Carriage returns are included…NOT COOL!!!

 

Changing the folder name from images to image…NOT COOL!!!

 

 

That's everything I've found so far...Mind you I haven't finished cleaning it out of uneeded crap...

 

I want my CS3 back...OMG what have I done.

Alternate layout with scale; snap to baseline

I am trying to use the new alternate layout feature, using the scale option.

 

My document has style sheets with body copy set to 9 point type with 12 points of leading.

 

When I make an alternate layout using the scale liquid page rule, InDesign correctly scales up both my type and my leading, but because I have my paragraph styles set to snap to the baseline grid (12 points), the effective leading remains at 12.  Is there some way to have a different baseline grid for the new alternat layout so it can be set to increase proportionately to the type size increase?

Export Book as ePub - an order option greyed out

Hello All... so after doing some fruitless searching online and in this forum, I must ask about this problem I've run into.

 

I am having the same problem within ID 5.5 on Windows and ID 6 on both Mac and Windows.

 

What I want to do is "Export Book to EPUB..." while also using the Articles Panel ordering I've set up in the documents. I am trying to do this with several different Books, and getting the same problem when in the Export Options.

 

I would like to select "Same as Articles Panel" as the option for "Content Order", but it is greyed out. What is even more frustrating is that *one time* the option was selectable, and the export worked as expected. I have no idea whatsoever why InDesign allowed me that one time to select the "Same as Articles Panel" option, yet every other time I try, it is greyed out and I cannot choose that option.

 

Would love to hear from some experts on this one. Thanks in advance for anyone's time and effort.

InDesign won't export pdf

I'm using InDesign CS5 on OSX 10.8. I've tried to export multiple pdfs from various files and have this problem every now and then (Which happend on both OSX 10.7 and 10.8). The empty pdf file will start as if nothing is wrong and then just disappear after about 10-15 seconds. No error dialog pops up or anything.

 

One file in particular is about 50 pages long and when I've exported 1 or 2 select pages, it works fine somehow, just refuses to export the file in its entirety.

 

 

All of my software is up to date. Does anybody have any solutions?

In Design CS 5.0 (7.0.4) slow file performance

I work on a large catalog in a workgroup setting of 5 people. We work with files on our desktop then store them on the server when we are done. All images are linked to a locatoin on the server. We are having issues with our files being slow and unrepsonsive.  This occurs when you start to work on the document and get into a text frame to do edits. Also, sometimes, the files will not open for some of us in the workgroup. The issue specific to the catalog files nothing else. The behavior is sparatic, Some users can open and work in the files fine, others report they cannot open the same document or that is is painfully slow and hesitant. 

 

To give you background on the issue, I had to update the styles this year. I also changed the basic style to a different typeface. I also added some simple GREP styles. I then used the book function to sync these styles with the rest of the catalog. In Additon, we found that not all users were using version 7.0.4. three of us were one was on 7.0.0 the other was on 7.0.3.  We all have since updated our software. I turned off auto font activation. We run Universal Type Client 3.1.0 (4)

 

We have tried Keith Gilbert's method of moving pages http://blog.gilbertconsulting.com/2010/10/another-way-to-repair-damage d-indesign.html. This allowed those of us who could not open the file and to be able to open the file and work on them. However, others reported slow performance in the same file. We have exported them out to IDML files without success.

 

The weird thing about this issue is that is sparatic and seems to be machine specific. If I repair the file on my machine it does not work on others. Others have files they have no issue with and I cannot open them. I have tried these files in CS6 and they seem to work fine.

 

So is it a font issue? Image issue? is it that they were booked up an now are not?  Is it the fact I tried to change the "basic styel"? I would not think so because files in a book do not know they are part of a book just like an image does not "know' it is part of an InDeisgn file. Could it be the serer?

 

If anyone has any ideas please respond. I've tired prety much everything I can think of. Remember it really isn't a preference issue becuase We all can work fine in other non-catalog files.

InDesign CS5 Crashes when exporting PDF. 10.7.4

We are rolling out a fresh install of Lion and a fresh install of CS5 to all our users.  So far it has been uneventful.  However a user who got his new computer/image last week cannot export any InDesign doc to PDF without it crashing.  I've removed prefs.  I uninstalled and reinstalled CS5 (using cleaner tool as well) and the problem still exists.  We don't have a single other user who's had this issue.

 

Any thoughts?

Drop down lists and email buttons

I am creating a form and I have about twenty items in a drop down list. I was wondering if and how I can set it so each item selected will cause an email button I have to change address. i.e item 1 sets the email button to item1@email.com and item 2 sets the button to item2@email.com. I think it has something to do with binding but I only have basic training so I am lost. Any help that you can give will be greatly appreciated . Thank you in advance

InDesign quits unexpectedly on launch

Hi!

I'm running CS4 Design Standard (Update 6.0.6) on my MacBook Pro. Photoshop and Illustrator both open fine, but when I try to launch InDesign, it quits unexpectedly on startup. The error report is pasted here:

Any help in solving my problem is appreciated.

 

I installed the software on my iMac two years ago, and I just bought this macbook pro. I used migration assistant to transfer over my applications from the iMac to the Pro. This may be why it doesn't work on the Pro.

Adobe InDesigh CS6 Activataion

Team, I have a PC that has had Adobe InDesign CS6 installed.

 

I thought that the user had activated our licence but they have come back to me to advise it is asking to activate after the trial has ended.

 

The issue is the only option I have when trying to activate the software is online.

 

The serial number is in the software and then I get the following...

 

Sign In Required - Sign in now.....

 

I put in the correct username and password and the "Please wait for a moment" comes up....

 

The it returns me back to the "Sign In Required"

 

The software has been un-installed and reinstalled to no avail.

 

Any help would be great.

Slow panels in InDesign CS6

Hi,

 

Has anyone else having problems with the panels on the right hand side of the screen on InDesign CS6? They're extremely unresponsive when collapsed and if clicked cause the spinning rainbow beachball to appear.

 

I'm using a brand new retina Macbook Pro 2.3 ghz 8GB with mountain lion.

 

It seemed to fix itself after the last Firmware update for the retina pro but reverted back to slowing down again today.

 

Any ideas/solution?

Number of copies keeps changing

New Windows 7 pc, and just upgrade to CS5, learning inDesign after using Illustrator for years. When I go to print in inDesign, i set the number of copies to say 5, then i have to go to setup to access the print drivers for additional features like paper choices, and that it's a publication and so fourth, and then I hit print for the print drivers window and it comes back to the InDesign print window, and the number of copies has changed back to 1......so after going through all those preferences i have to continually reset the number of copies and that doesn't seem right.....never had this type of issue before with the same printer. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Indesign: Drag & Drop doesn´t work anymore

Hi, since I installed Indesign CS 5.5 drag & drop doesn´t work. It works if I do it from Bridge, but I can´t drag & drop from the explorer or Nikon View NX.

 

Any tipps besides reinstallation ?

 

I´m using Win7 fully patched, Indesign runs as administrator.

converting CMYK doc to RGB, one page behaving odd

I've got a problem spent the last two days trying to problem solve....

 

I have a print doc (CMYK) using black and a spot colour.

I then need a web version of the same material, in a different layout, so I've copied the pages to a web doc (RGB).

This copying brings the spot into the RGB doc.

So after copying I delete spot from swatch and assign a standard RGB value.

This changes all the spot colours to the RGB value as expected.

 

Everything looks right in InDesign, after exporting the PDF the first 10 pages show the colour correctly, then the last page only is way off the correct colour. It looks correct in InDesign and everything is RGB.

 

Anyone know what's going on?

Why is just one page being weird?

 

I've tried:

- added new material to the problem page and assigned the RGB colour, appear correct InDesign, PDF way off

- duplicating an okay page, copying in the new material.

 

any advice would be really apprecited!

InDesign CS5.5 - templates

For long documents (i.e., books), I've typically used templates -- after setting up the template, I'll use it and do a save as, for each document, or chapter, in the indd book. What I would like to know is, if I've based documents on a template, and then change the template, will that change automatically be reflected in each document that's been based on the template? Boy, that would be a great time-saver.
