InDesign CS5 Interactive PDF with video

I’m using InDesign CS5 and have built a single page that incorporates a video that I want to appear when a button is clicked and disappear when another button is clicked. The video is set up as two object states to move on and off the page. I have a skin on the video that is checked to appear on rollover. Everything works fine when previewed within InDesign and the html and swf work as designed. The problem is that when I place the swf into a blank page in InDesign and export as an interactive pdf the video does not play and the skin does not show up. The buttons work as designed.

 

I have tried several variations but have not been able to resolve the problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

IDcs6 defaults to desktop when autosave

just upgraded to indesigncs6 and when i do a "save as" - it defaults to the desktop, not to the location of the current document. any ideas on this? CS5.5 would always save to the existing folder where the"old" file was. it's just a few less steps... thanks in advance.

IS Indesign the best for me (or Publisher)

Hi,

I am working for a company and have to design a few procut data sheets, broshures and finally a whole product catalouge.

I really would like to take Indesign because it is very famous and "the standard" for these topics.

But it is really expensive. I have some experience with the program.  But I have some questions to you. Thank you a lot for answering my questions:

 

1.) other members of my company would like to use Microsoft Publisher (they all usw Microsoft so that's no disadvantage)

Are there any advantages that M Publisher is not able to do?

I don't need any  3D or very special stuff. Just for my topics above.

 

2.) I want to create single sheets. These sheets should be able to combine in a whole document.

Is this possible with these "books"?

Is it possible to easy create a table of content? automatically? an index that is changing if number of pages or size of documents change?

Is it possible to link inside the pdf document that users can jump from table of content to a specific chapter by clicking?

 

 

3.) How should the structure have been done?

Do I need 2 versions for each file? One for printing and one for pdf viewing on computers?? Or is it possible just to create one?

Also with different languages. Is it recommend to use the laysers for this thing?

Or not (because of the idea of creating an easy catalouge.) I need 2 versions. So does it make sense to combine it in one single file?

The catalouge has to be switched otherwise in every single paper. isn't it?

 

 

Are there any other tips and comments?

Maybe I use a differnt approach or designing idea?

Do AI native files in Indesign cause large PDF exports?

Hello all:

 

I am a novice at InDesign as well as exporting to PDF, but I have a 45 page document I want to save for web viewing only.... it's my design portfolio.  There are a lot of AI graphics I have placed in this document (about 20 AI files) and when I export to PDF from InDesign with the smallest file size setttings, I can get it down to about 10 mb. I also have a ton of jpegs in there, but they are all 72 dpi resolution, to cut down on the size of the PDF.

 

So my question is: can i get the PDF file size down more if I take those AI files and save them as jpegs and re-place them in my indesign document again as jpegs versus AI files?  Do native AI files bloat an InDesign document?

Hi! I'm about to upgrade to indesign cs6 but i want to make sure it's possible to open indesign cs4 files in it first. If so how do i prepare the files or do i even need to do anything!? Thanks!!

CS6 form creation not allowing tables to be used.

I have created a form to be exported to pdf, however none of the table contents output as text boxes. Is there a way to have this happen, or a way to convert the table into individual boxes to be assigned? The form has approx 800 boxes which need to be available for input. As an experiment I created a simple 16 x 10 table with plain empty cells and exported to pdf. acrobat ignored the table even after cycling it through the auto-detect wizard.

 

Any ideas?

I posted this on the acrobat forum to no avail.

In Design CS5 crashes when wrapping text around

I haven't been using ID for some time but I've just written my master thesis and need to edit a few things before printing, so I need it fixed like.. ASAP. Please help!

 

I've had this problem for a couple of days and it started like that: I placed a photo and wrapped text around, then I needed to move the photo a bit and then... ID freezes. After a couple of ctrl+alt+del action I figured out it starts to work when I first turn wrapping off, then move the photo and then turn wrapping on. Funny thing it didn't happen to every photo, just some of them. But then I managed, and now I have a problem. I need to resize the text frame on every page, and despite turning off text wrapping ID crashes when I resize the text frame that has a photo above, but! they're not even the same photos as before! :/ Any ideas?

 

I'm using InDesign CS5, Windows 7 (64 bit), Intel Core i7-2630qm @ 2.00Ghz, 6 GB RAM

Transparent items disappearing when exporting to PDF

Hi,

I wonder if anyone could help with this problem in InDesign CS5.

Basically, transparent objects are disappearing when exporting to PDF. These are not 'non printing' objects. They are shapes drawn in InDesign.

 

It happens to some people in the office when creating shapes but not all. I wonder what differences there are in their settings to make this happen.

 

Can anyone suggest anything?

InDesign 5.5: Strange Printing Transparency Issues

Hi guys, long time reader, first time poster. This forum has helped with a lot of problems, so thanks, and hopefully you can help with this one.

 

I'm working on a multiple-spread page for a client that is giving me some strange issues when it's printed. The document has an image as a background for the entire page, and then a black box over the image with some text on top of it. For some reason, the black box with text is letting the image underneath show through, almost as if the box is 99% transparent or something. I've checked each box individually, and there's nothing in the transparency/attributes boxes. I'm not sure how, exactly, to solve this issue -- is there some sort of universal transparent image setting (for instance, set black to 99% opacity always or something similar)?. It's the only thing I can think of.

 

InDesign CS5.5, OSX Lion. The files are a combination of TIFF and JPG images, and I get the same issue no matter what image format is underneath.

 

Any feedback is welcome here.

Problems with guides and spacing between pages?

I am trying to get the guides to show on some of the pages but they won't? And as a result the pages have suddenly spaced out stangely. Please see im age below.

Table alignment issues InDesign CS4

Hi,

 

Can anybody help me on the following issues in InDesign CS4.

 

We have an table which has 50 rows and 23 columns. All the cell contents is in the number format (example: 56.90) and are aligned on decimal point (dot alignment).

Also, the table content has XML tags.

 

When we export the table as PDF, we have the issues that the table column texts are not aligned (dot aligned) properly in the exported PDF file.

 

We used the default "High Quality Print" InDesign PDF preset settings but without "Create Tagged PDF" option enabled to export the PDF. In this PDF, the columns texts are not aligned (dot align) properly. It look likes zig zag. (Please see the below image which is not aligned properly)

But when we enabled the "Create Tagged PDF" option in the preset, then there is no issues in the column text alignment.

 

Is this bug in InDesign CS4 application. Please suggest.

Sample buttons appear with blue background after export to pdf. Why??

So much for InDesign making my life easier by creating forms...
I have dragged and dropped a sample 'checkbox' onto my workspace. The second box is wider because I want the ‘clickable area’ to be larger than just the button. There are no colours set here other than the colour of the ticks/crosses. All looks fine until I export to pdf (usual interactive options) and there's a bit ugly background behind all my buttons!

I checked the other 'states' and none of them had colouring in them either...so where is this ugly blue colouring coming from??
See diagram below to see what I did....Thanks in advance for any help - this is driving me crazy!

File Association

When I had InDesign CS 5.5 installed I was able to associate *.pmd files with InDesign so that I could open the page maker files in InDesign by double clicking the *.pmd file in Windows Explorer, but since installing CS 6 I have been unable to associate or connect that extension with InDesign. Therefore the only way I can open pmd files in InDesign is to drag and drop them into an open indesign program or go to file open from InDesign. Does someone know how I can get this file associated properly????? I've noticed it seems to have something to do with the fact that InDesign's ".exe" file is located in "Program Files (x86)" and not the standard "Program Files".

Fonts and Library

Hi!

 

I have a few questions that are boiling in my mind. I own a copy of InDesign CS6 through Creative Cloud and I'm currently working on a magazine.

 

Questions:

 

1.I have downloaded a font for use but it is restricted due to licensing issues, says the error. The page I downloaded it at states that it is free to use, even for commercial purposes.

Fontname: Royal

http://www.fontspace.com/aldus/royal

I get this error when trying to publish a PDF file.

 

2. Is it possible to create a Library in InDesign with all assets like graphics, text,  and so on and send this file to someone else so he could use all of it. Create all the assets that will be needed for the magazine so to speak.

 

3. Is it possible to link text so it jumps for example to another page?

Install ID 1.5 onto Windows 7 Pro?

In the process of migrating software off of an 8-year old machine and we've never updated from InDesign 1.5. Frankly, I don't use it that much, but when I do need it, it's invaluable, plus I have a lot of legacy files.

 

Will this install directly onto Windows 7 Pro (64-bit) or should I go straight to installing using the XP Mode on the Virtual Machine? Upgrading is not an option.

CS6 hyperlink problem

Hi everyone,

 

In Indesign CS6, I created a new URL hyperlink and pasted the following link into the field:

 

http://law.ato.gov.au/atolaw/view.htm?docid=AID/AID2004688/00001

 

But when I click OK and then look in the URL field in the hyperlinks panel, I see that Indesign has changed the link to the following:

 

http://law.ato.gov.au/atolaw/view.htm%3Fdocid%3DAID/AID2004688/00001

 

Notice how it's swapping out the question mark (?) after .htm with %3F.

 

It's also swapping out the equals sign (=) with %3D.

 

This breaks the URL and makes it no longer workable.

 

I tried reinstalling Indesign but the problem still remains.

 

I wondered if anyone knows why this is happening and whether there's a workaround?

I am having trouble exporting InDesign CS6 files into JPGs or PNGs

I am not able to complete the export of an InDesign file into JPG or PNG, it has worked fine for me in all other versions except for this one, I keep trying, it takes me all the way to the output setup dialog box and it just doesn't do anything after that. I have looked into all the folders I have to see if by any chance it was saved in a different location but basically there's no trace of anything created.

Snippet_3064049C6.idms

A file called Snippet_3064049C6.idms has just appeared on my desktop. Its preferences tells that the type is InDesign Markup Snippet (.idms). I run InDesign CS4, but I havn't installed any new adobe programs recently nor updated any except Adobe Reader - as well as Windows 7's usual updates. What is this file for?
