How to print with no background and black text?

Hi,

 

I made a document with InDesign. Some pages have dark background with almost-white text and some pages have light gray background with dark text. I want to make a printer-friendly version of the document. I would like to find a way that it automatically print all text in black with no/white background.

 

I almost found my answer with Acrobat (after making a PDF of my document). In Adobe Acrobat, if I go in "Edit" ; "Preferences"; "Accessibility" I can replace the colors of the documents (background and text). This make the job very nicely but seems to be only for viewing purposes. When I print the document, it still has the same original colors.

 

Is there a way to do this in InDesign or Acrobat?

PS Could also use other tools of the Creative suit but I am looking for an easy and fast to reproduce solution.

Creating a gallery slideshow in in-design and exporting as an INTERACTIVE PDF, not epub!

Hi guys, I've been trying to figure this out for ages and I don't seem to be making any progress.

 

I'm looking to create a slideshow within an interactive PDF fro my portfolio, but every tutorial I come across asks me to export as an e-pub.

 

I think it has something to do with 'hide/show' buttons as appose to 'state objects' but not sure.

Convert fonts to outlines - when is absolutely needed?

Hello,

 

Do I need to convert the fonts to outlines when exporting to .pdf?

How about before packaging the finished job? (I might be wrong, but I think not since the fonts are packaged along with all the elements).

Indesign Script to move character styled text to new layer

Hi all,

 

 

My google search has not fully answered my question. So would amyonehave any ideas on the following please?

 

Is there an indesign script available that will find text with a character style and move this text container to a new layer.

 

 

Or if this is not possible maybe

Move all text frames in a document with a specific colour swatch fill, say blue, and move these to another layer?

So all text frames with a blue background are moved to a layer named "blue frames"

 

 

All help and guidance appreciated

Missing texts after publish online

Hello,
After having made a publish online of a magazine of 100 pages in indesign, some parts of texts are missing (headlines, numbers of pages ..).

From this (Indesign)
to this (online)

 

 

 

No error message, it's not the first time it happens, what do we do ? some changes in settings ?

Applying Live Captions to an Entire Document..not just one page at a time.

Hello,

 

Is there a way to apply live captions to an entire document or Book?

 

Right now I am only able to apply live captions to one page at a time. There has to be a way to do the entire document or a book, right?

En effet quand je suis sur une page et que je masque le calque, il disparait sur toutes les pages.

Packaging indb links into different folders

Hi there, I have a huge book of 700+ pages, made by 10 different chapters.
I need to package everything to give all the content to another person who is going to write captions for each image (filling the description field in the image's metadata).
What I need is to have separate image folders for every chapter, but as far as I know packaging the indb file generates a single Link folder with every image of every chapter all randomly placed together in it. It would be extremely useful for the person who is going to do the job to have the link folder divided into chapters.

I don't think that packaging each chapter individually is the solution, because this way I would have to keep 7 folders (with a pdf, an indd, an idml, links etc. in every single one of them) and re-link each chapter in the indb as well.

interactive animations won't work when I publish online

I created a printed zine for my internship using InDesign CC 2018, and now my boss wants me to transform it into a digital interactive document. I've never done anything like this before so I'm really learning as I go. Previously, I was exporting the interactive document as an .swf file (shows how much I know!!) but have since moved on to using the "Publish Online" option through InDesign.

 

My issue is this: I created a table of contents using separate images that hyperlink to each section of the zine. I added the "grow" animation to each one so that when you rolled your mouse over the option, the image would swell a little bit so it was clear which one you were going to click on. These animations worked when I was exporting as .swf, but now don't work when I publish online. All hyperlinks still work and go where they're supposed to but I'd really like to have that added animation detail.

EPUB Interactivity Only Works On Page Load

When trying to create an interactive EPUB I've found that only objects set to animate on page load are working correctly. I've saved the Animation Encyclopedia found in the scripts panel and published it online so you can see what I mean.

 

Also when hovering over a button, the cursor changes but there's no rollover state and its functionality doesn't work despite the fact it works in the SWF Preview panel and in interactive PDF.

 

I've tried trashing my preferences, uninstalling and reinstalling InDesign and rolling back to CC2017 but to no avail. I know it's most likely a problem with my computer but does anyone have any idea of how I could fix it?

InDesign 2018 crashes exporting file with Index to pdf

I have a 141 page product catalog witch I just upgraded to ID 2018. The app crashed on me when exporting the file to PDF, witch I always have been doing without problems. I have rebuilt the document from scratch and tried to export the document after every 20-25 pages. Everything went fine until i added the Index. Then the export fails after 99% and app crashes. If i delete the index it works fine. I use the page number in the index as links to actual page in i pdf file. No external hyperlinks to web etc.

 

I have installed the bug fix and reset all ID preferences. Don't know what to do now...need to produce the catalogue an distribute to our sales staff ASAP.

Printing Sections

When I print by section the first section is missing.  I do not have an option to print just the first section of the file.  I am forced to print all the spreads and then delete the spreads that I don't need.  The following sections print fine.  The only way I have found to resolve this is to add an extra page at the beginning of the document, and set the section numbering to 1.  This would be workable if I were the only one who would use this file, but I need it to be used by others across the office.

Layers are not different per page

I am a very beginner at inDesign.

I have two pages in my project. When i double click on each of them, the layers in the layer palette maintain the same. I can hide and unhide but no matter what page I am on it effects the other page thats not in view.

Sharing InDesign on a server good or bad

I've been working with shared-InDesign files over a server for the last month, with a team of 3 or 4 of us (depending on the day). Some of our files come over just fine and some come over with the fonts blown out.  Could this be a problem with the server? Has anyone ever heard of or experienced an issue of corruption or compatibility of Shared InDesign files on a server?  Thanks for your Help.

Same endnote in multiple places

Hey!

 

The new endnote feature in Indesign CC 2018 is a feature I've been waiting for for years, but I can't figure out how to use link to the same endnote in multiple places.

 

I'm working on a medical brochure. Specific published studies has to be referenced to in multiple places.
But, when I try to add a endnote it automatically makes a new one, how do I reference to one that is already entered?

 

Example:
This text references the first endnote(1)This text references the second endnote(2)
This text is supposed to reference the first endnote once more(1)

 

Please, Adobe or anyone in here – why is this not possible? Or is it?

hyperlinks to html files

I am using InDesign to produce a series of documents within a book (step 1 is PDF output). Eventually, I will output these documents separately to html files (with a consistent naming convention) and they will all live in the same directory on a client's server.

 

I want to place a hyperlink in a document that links to another of the documents -- much like a cross-reference in PDF -- so that when the html is viewed in a browser, clicking the link will open another html document in the set. All html documents will be in the same directory.

 

Cross-references produce empty hrefs (<a href="">). These would all have to be filled in manually after-the-fact, which would kill maintainability.

 

In the hyperlink dialog...

  • URL - requires a fully-qualified URL (and I can't know where the client will want to put the resulting html files). I have tried entering only the file name, and ID inserts http:// in front of it. There does not seem to be a configuration adjustment where I can change this behavior.
  • File - links to a file on a local machine; same problem -- can't know where the client will put the html files.
  • Email - is inappropriate.
  • Page - will only link to a .indd document -- otherwise this might work.
  • Text Anchor - will only link to a .indd document.
  • Shared destination -- which the help says will link to any document -- will only link to any .indd document.

 

For ongoing maintenance reasons, I would like to build these links into the files of the book, not manually doctor them after-the-fact. I would think that ID would have a way to call an html document that is not a fully-qualified URL (and open it in a browser, for instance). The cross-reference produces an href... it just  doesn't populate it.

 

Are there any suggestions?

Database error INDCS5.5

I have a file that was completed a few weeks ago and had no issues opening it during the process of finishing up the document.

Now that I've finished and need to print the document again ( a few weeks later) I get a database error every time.

 

Is there anyway to recover this file so that I don't have to retype everything?  (There are no links/images)
