Hello all, quick question;
I'm starting to get more & more documents which don't preview any transparency - though they export fine to PDF. It's not all documents, and ones that preview normally will have the transparent element stop previewing properly if brought into a non-previewing document. This seems to affect anything under transparency & effects, eg Gradient Feather, Drop Shadows, etc.
It does print and export correctly - so not a massive problem - but I have no idea why this is happening. Is there a setting I've been messing up occasionally?
Notes:
Mac Sierra 10.12.6 + Indesign CC 2018
Preview within Document (The Black Box is set to Multiply with 40% Opacity)
Preview out as a Low-Res PDF (Black box appears correctly)
Settings for the effect - Preview is checked!
ID CS6.
I've never used Static Captions before, and I'm having two issues:
1. When I create a caption it automatically creates a text frame that is about 4 times as wide as necessary
2. Paragraph Style is set to Center justify, but captions don't align to the image.
Are there some settings that I'm missing?
Can someone out there help me.I have upgraded to the latest Indesign suite-18, and Adobe Indesign is really not working. It is not showing my master page elements, the style sheet is not working, it does not automatically back up if I crash...and I can go on and on, but I cannot get through to anyone. What do I do? I have taken out all the preferences already.
How do I effectively split a page at the center so the left side is the top of the calendar and the right side is the bottom?
I have used datamerge to make the months, then when I put the adobe acrobat print setting to booklet, there isn't a way to split the pages in the center.
My first option is to just crop the pages and then manually do that for 24 pages, but is there a better way? For instance if you are making a magazine and you want oversized pages to tile (i.e. picture spreads) would you have to manually do that, or is there a way to do that Indesign better than the crop version?
If you want to see a picture of the process I did let me know if it will improve your answer.
we have a server for our graphics drive, which we remotely access and I have a quick link to this on my desktop. I double click on this link and it takes me to the server, where I can access all our artwork. There is no problem with this at all. I can open any file via this method. However, once I have opened an InDesign file, clicked on ‘File’ and then ‘Package’ from the dropdown menu, and then clicked ‘Package’ on the window that opens, I get the attached error message and can’t go any further.
The error message is this:
Unable to package the document.
In design cannot access ‘graphics: 'file-name.indd’
Can anyone tell me what has gone wrong and / or how to fix it. I am using the latest Indesign version and also the latest version of Mac OS.
Thank you
I am trying to copy and paste a cover layout of text and images to the first page of the interior layout file, and some of the text boxes become overset (not all). Obviously, there is some conflict, but I can't identify it.
Any ideas?
I have a 60pg document (facing pages) and I need to adjust the width of each page from 158mm to 154mm but when I change the document size all of the elements on the page (text boxes & images) 'shift' as well. I don't want this, I want them to remain exactly where they are. There must be an option to deselect this but I can't find it. Thanks
Anybody came across this issue that seem to have affected installations of Indesign 6.03/6.04. This is on an intel Mac with OSX 10.5.8. Strangely this issue does not affect a machine that has 10.5.6 and indesign 6.01 "The network connection was lost for the file QualityAwardsProg09.indd, or the file was modified by another process."
This was followed by: "Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign documents." InDesign then shut itself down, and the error message came up: "QualityAwardsProg09.indd could not be found. Do you want to postpone it's recovery? Click yes to recover this document later. Click no to delete recovery data for this document. Click cancel to postpone all document recovery until later." This crash only affected the document I was actually working on, the other 3 InDesign docs I had open recovered fine. I came across this article which explains the issue but its the wrong version of OS and indesign. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/331/331822.html The files do reside on an SMB network and i am wondering if this may be an issue. No other network connectivity is lost during the error. I am going to reinstall CS4 without updating then update after a period of time. Although this issue is intermittent its not exactly the best solution.
Hi there
Hopefully someone can help. I have a long document with over 370 references which I imported from a couple of Word documents. All the endnotes are essentially manual entries superscript entries - though there are no other superscript entries other than the place and they are in assorted text boxes.
Basically I'm looking for a way to automatically convert the superscript text and manual endnotes into the new InDesign endnotes format. I'm going to have to do some fairly major edits on the document and this would make life so much easier.
Does anyone know if this is possible? I've found https://indesignsecrets.com/topic/superscript-numbers-to-footnotes and https://forums.adobe.com/external-link.jspa?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kahrel.plus.com%2Findesig n%2Ffootnote_endnote_conversio… but I don't think either of these will quite do what I'm looking for. The first one ran an error and now won't do anything and the second only works for InDesign endnotes/footnotes.
Hopefully someone can help, either to do everything automatically or at the very least tell me how I can batch convert a manual superscript into an inserted footnote which I can then copy and paste the reference text into.
Thanks in advance
Matt
I can't make Indesign 2018 export a high res pdf. All the links are great. Preflight is green. Verified my pdf presets resolutions, and also tried the default ones. Everything, eps and raster, is low res when it comes up in Acrobat DC.
When I go back to Indesign 2017, it outputs correctly at high res, the same exact files, as it always had.
I uninstalled acrobat DC, and that made no difference. How do I fix the distiller with Indesign 2018?
The Indesign 2018 pdf results look lower than 72 dpi. Anyone else see this?
(Mac OS 10.9.5, ID CC 2015.5) I'm trying to use Fontawesome Pro 5 in InDesign. The glyphs panel doesn't work - insert a glyph, I get the glyph name (eg plus-circle) instead. The instructions are that you're supposed to be able to type the glyph name (again eg "plus-circle) and the ligatures are supposed to replace the text with the appropriate symbol. This isn't working either. Ligatures are activated for that font, and I've also tried turning on discretionary ligatures for OTF fonts via the Character control panel. Fontawesome the free version works perfectly - you can insert glyphs without issue. Annoyingly, Fontawesome Pro glyphs DO work perfectly in Illustrator. Any ideas?
Hello there good crew of Adobe!
I work at a magazine publisher and our team just updated to the latest 2018 Adobe CC releases, the new illustrator tools are wonderful by the way.
However we have hit a major snag. In the latest 2018 release of inDesign and inCopy someone currently has an inDesign document open, and someone tries to access the same document via inCopy document, they are given the Error Code 14 (Which claims the document is open elsewhere preventing access). Oddly enough though, if the team member opens the document with inCopy first then the other member can access the document with inDesign without the Error 14.
This is a new issue that was never present before until the 2018 release.
This is a major problem for us as we have a team of designers and editors constantly working on the same collection of inDesign files, and we have a major print date to hit.
I love your products and have been a member for years but I need help!
Thank you so much and all the best!
I just got InDesign, and I'm trying to make a double page spread [ I may be using the wrong words] and it keeps going to a single page. I know I must be missing something. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
Much Thanks.
I have created a test interactive document with links to product DG012 on our company website.
https://indd.adobe.com/view/da74b2d3-46b2-40cf-99e2-8201ddc6248a
When the link is clicked from publish online it opens the page but seems to disable all scripts that run on the website. e.g. search field and add to cart no longer functions on that page.
The website itself functions correctly if you navigate to the link manually ( http://www.lockhart.co.uk/Table-Service-and-Buffet/Buffet-Display/Display-Stands/Rafters-F usion-1-2-Board~p~DG012 ).
On closer inspection it seems to be an iframe issue -
If I go into chrome developer tools i get the following errors:

When clicked the link opens in a new window so I am not sure how to go about editing the code behind the sandbox element.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone,
I had to update to 2018 recently in order to work on some files from an agency. Unfortunately, this has messed up another group project. One of the people involved in the project can't update to 2018 and needs for me to work in 2017. When I updated, 2018 overwrote 2017, so I no longer have access to it. Is there a way to download 2017 and have it and 2018 both on my computer?

Hey Guys
Please help me understand why I cannot open any InDesign documents I create with the new InDesign 2018. All the files I make or save with the new software give me the same error on opening: "Cannot open "INVITE_WIP.indd". The file "INVITE_WIP.indd" is damaged (Error code: 4).
Please help me! I am paying this does not mean I have lost all the work I have created with InDesign CC 2018.

In the company we have a lot of juridical books with thousands of footnotes.
These kind of books mostly have +700 pages where the footnotes have to have a continuous numbering.
When you have a book file with for example 8 files, we have to set the footnote numbering manually if we want to have a continuous numbering.
Is there any option to have a continous footnote numbering thoughout a book file?
I hoped this (big) issue was solved in CC, but apparantly it isn't. Any tips/tricks?

I have a massive document that was handed off to me after being imported from Word, and the person who imported it did not convert tables to text (or they tried and it didn't work, either way, I have a huge amount of tables that need to be un-tabled).
I'm tasked with formatting the document, and part of the formatting requirements are to convert all of the tables in the document into text. I've been able to batch process the other formatting in the document using find + replace, but I can't seem to figure out a way to find all instances of a table in the document, and convert all table formatting to text. I can find each table in the find/change tool by using <0016>, but I have no clue how to then remove the table formatting with the change function.
I don't have any special text formatting requirements (standard; tabs for columns and new paragraphs for rows), and all the tables need to be converted, regardless of their formatting or content, so it's pretty straight forward.
There has to be SOME way tot automate this, it seems incredibly tedius to have to select each table individually, and go up to the menu to select 'convert table to text...'. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
