I bought a book on 'creating app books using Indesign DPS'

I can still create ebooks with Indesign,

but now that DPS is gone, (and only affordable to large companies)

What should I do to make apps (app books, I don’t think this name is often used in USA, I’m Korean)

, or more precisely, to publish books in the form of apps like I could have done with DPS (Which is not possible now)

PS.

Is adobe experience manager affordable for impoverished individuals?

Thank you!

Mysterious character??

Hello, can anyone tell me what the hidden character between 'respect' and 'thereof' is called, and how I insert it into my paragraphs?

I have picked up a document from a previous designer and they use it in justified text to ensure the last word of the page doesn't flow over and sit as a widow.

Thank you !

Words at end of line squished together

Hi,

I have a frustrating problem with InDesign CS6. In only one line of the text, the two words at the end of the line are squished together so that it looks like I didn't put a space between them even though I did. I have tried messing with the paragraph styles to no avail. I am using left aligned and not justified, so I'm not sure why it's doing this. The kerning and tracking are both set to 0. If anyone has an idea of how to fix this, please let me know.

Thanks,

Lara

Adding Hunspell dictionary makes InDesign spelling unusable

I am running InDesign CC 13.0.1 on High Sierra 10.13.1.

Adding a Hunspell dictionary to InDesign causes a huge slowdown to the application, and the spellcheck no longer works. Afterwards, I have to reinstall InDesign for it to be usable.

It could be something to do with code-signing, as the console is throwing errors such as the one listed below.

Is there another place where I can install my custom language dictionaries, other than within the AdobeHunspellPlugin bundle?

AMFI: Check-fix enabled for binary '/Applications/Adobe InDesign CC 2018/Resources/Dictionaries/LILO/Linguistics/Providers/Plugins2/AdobeHunspellPlugin.bundl e/Contents/MacOS/AdobeHunspellPlugin' with TeamID 'JQ525L2MZD', identifier 'com.adobe.adobehunspellplugin2': broken signature treated as unsigned without privileges. This workaround will not work for software built on or after 10.12.

Packaging book destroys existing links

I've come across an issue when packaging a book for print from Indesign CC 2018

I'm working on a Mac Pro running OS X 10.11.6

I create a monthly magazine. After each mag has been completed I package the book to create a folder for archiving and back-up purposes. I keep the Original folder containing Indesign files on my computer for future reference.

The problem I have just discovered is that when I package the book, it saves copies of any linked files into a new folder and changes the links in the indesign documents (as expected) BUT it also changes all the link location in the ORIGINAL Indesign documents to point to the packaged folder's link location.

This means that when I archive the packaged folder to DVD and delete it from my computer, when I open the Original indesign files for reference, all of its links are missing, so I cannot find the original images.

Id this a bug? Is there any way around it? Or am I just missing a check box somewhere?

GREP Question

Hello all, I'm attempting to style a large amount of titles (formatted in the style shown below)Screen Shot 2017-12-08 at 11.42.27.png

I need to change them into the following styles.

Screen Shot 2017-12-08 at 11.43.21.png

Screen Shot 2017-12-08 at 11.47.37.png

So it should end up looking like this

Screen Shot 2017-12-08 at 11.50.55.png

It's always in the same style, (number | title | country | date | creator) and I was curious if there was a way I could do this using GREP, I'm pretty sure it's possible, I just can't work out the right sequence. I suppose I would need to be able to specify which | I was referring to. Any ideas?

Thanks

CS6 hyperlink problem

Hi everyone,

In Indesign CS6, I created a new URL hyperlink and pasted the following link into the field:

http://law.ato.gov.au/atolaw/view.htm?docid=AID/AID2004688/00001

But when I click OK and then look in the URL field in the hyperlinks panel, I see that Indesign has changed the link to the following:

http://law.ato.gov.au/atolaw/view.htm%3Fdocid%3DAID/AID2004688/00001

Notice how it's swapping out the question mark (?) after .htm with %3F.

It's also swapping out the equals sign (=) with %3D.

This breaks the URL and makes it no longer workable.

I tried reinstalling Indesign but the problem still remains.

I wondered if anyone knows why this is happening and whether there's a workaround?

Appreciate any help.

InDesign CC Start-up Error: "...lack sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders"

InDesign CC

Having successfully installed many CC apps on my Mac Pro Desktop, I proceeded to do the same on my laptop. However, after two attempts at uninstalling and re-downloading both InDesign CC and the Creative Cloud Desktop. When starting up InDesign, I repeatedly get this error message: "Error: Unable to launch Adobe InDesign as you lack sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders. Ensure that you have appropriate permissions and then restart Adobe InDesign." and can go no further.

I can find no instruction on how to do this, or reference to anyone else getting this error.

Phantom boxes and distorted images while editing

$

I'm not sure how to describe this problem, so please see the screenshots. Recently, whenever I'm editing a something in InDesign I get these phantom shapes/boxes that either gray stuff out or gray half the page. Also, my images will randomly become distorted and no matter what I do they stay that way. Sometimes reinserting the image will help that, but sometimes it does not and I just have to hope for the best when I export. When I export everything looks fine, but it makes editing kind of tedious. Does anything know what these are and how to fix them?

I have already checked for updates, deleted and reinstalled the application, and tried turning my computer off and on again. I hadn't changed any settings when this started happening last week, but it is possible something got changed without me realizing it. So, if this is caused by a setting issue, I'd love any advice on what setting needs to be adjusted.

Thanks!

Update from InDesign CS6 to CC2018 - extrem slow

$

I updated finally from CS6 to CC2018 because the CS6 wouldn't work well with my new MacBook Pro and the OSX Sierra.

When I now open a Document with 64 pages with mostly text and a few images, its extremly slow and any text change I would like to do takes around 10-30 seconds.

I contact the Adobe Support but they told me I should just use the CS6 for the Documents and create new ones with CC. I'm not sure if this guy just couldn't be bothered or if this is the true solution. I asked what shall I do if a customer wants an old 200 pages catalog redone, do I then have to create the complete thing from scratch and this can't really be a honest solution. But yes this seems to be the Adobe Answer.

I also asked what if the Software with CS6 won't run on my new Mac and therefor I upgraded. Well his solution was to then use the old Mac for the old Stuff.

Seems pretty ignorant for me but I just wanted to check if this is true?

Perhaps someone else can help me on this. All old CS6 files, even if its just some text on a one page it takes a few seconds till I can edit some text. How can I use old InDesign files in the CC 2018 Version?

InDesign Crashing when editing document

Issue:  When attempting to insert elements into a file, Indesign crashes.

Version: Adobe Indesign (64 bit),  13.0.0.125

What we have done so far to troubleshoot:  Uninstalled and reinstalled application and updated all drivers and bios.  Right now the user is able to work only because we installed a previous version and the files work fine.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

I installed a test version of Indesign cc. But it is not possible to start it. The error message is:

Unable to open code, VCRUNTIME140.dll not found.

I tried to reinstall but it did not work.

My system: Windows 10

InDesign won't launch, stops on "starting up trackers"

No matter what I do, InDesign CC 2015 will never successfully open up. It gets to the point in the loading popup where it says "Starting up trackers..." every time, but then "stops working." I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and using the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, but it won't ever open. Illustrator works just fine, though. When I checked the Event Viewer, I got this:

Faulting application name: InDesign.exe, version: 11.4.1.102, time stamp: 0x579f93de
