relinking all files in a document...

$

Hi all,

I'm running InDesign CS6 on Mac (Mountain Lion).  I am working off site from my office for a while, so I've copied all the files from our server onto my desktop.  All of the filenames, folders are identical to those on the server.

The problem is, when I take an InDesign file, all of the links are broken because it's trying to search the server.  Is there an easy way to relink all of the files in my document?

Thanks!

I need to create an index of a physician directory. The physicians have "M.D." after their names and some have "Jr." or "Sr." and/or Ph.D. in their names. How can I generate an index so that the names appear as Smith Jr., John R. , M.D., Ph.D.

His name in the directory would appear as John R. Smith Jr., M.D. Ph.D.

install InDesign CS6 subscription on a second computer

I am a month-to month subscriber to InDesign CS6.

How do I install my subscription on my 2nd computer?

I downloaded a trial version to the 2nd computer but it doesn't connect to my Adobe ID even though I used the same Adobe ID as for my subscription. Will it automatically attach to the subscription version at the end of the trial?

Or should I uninstall the trial and install the subscription program from my first computer?

Both are working perfectly on their respective computers.

FYI, I am PC not Mac; the first computer with the active subscription is Windows XP Pro, the second (currently with the trial version) is Windows 7.

Thank you very much for your help.

Double sided card in Indesign

$

Hi,

I have a problem with creating some double sided cards in Indesign and I was hoping that someone can help me please?

I have to create double sided cards in Indesign, so each side of the card has a border and crop marks in the exact same place. Each side is also a separate pdf file.(a front pdf and a back pdf). I cannot make these as a single pdf and print because the printing is on card, which is on the bypass try of the printer.

I need to print this double sided and then chop the edges off using the crop marks as guides. I have tried printing these files - so I place the card on the bypass tray and print the front, then place the card back on the bypass tray and print the back - in the exact same place. But when I print this, one side of the card always prints to the side - meaning the crop marks are misaligned for chopping.

I'm wondeing if there is anything I need to do in Indesign rather than the printer to print so that the crop marks on the same place on either side of the card.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks very much

Hi All,

I am using the ID CS5 in mac 10.6.7. I know that the "InBooklet SE.4x.pln.framework" is now changed to "PrintBooklet”. But in my document  while I do the package I get the notification for the external plugin "InBooklet SE.4x.pln.framework". One of my customer says that this is the reason they cant able to open the same file on their end. But it works fine with us.

Can any one help me and answer for the following questions.

1. Is there still "InBooklet SE.4x.pln.framework" availabale?

2. If "InBooklet SE.4x.pln.framework"' is not with from CS5, then how and where it come from?

3. Where should I need to disable this from CS5?

4. Really is this cause problem?

Note: For the immediate remedy I have export the document as IDML and sent the same to my customer and it works fine.

Below the line I have pasted the [ackage report for references.

Thanks

Prithivirajan

Indexmatic with subscribed InDesign?

$

Guys,

My friend want to buy InDesign subscribed for month and use IndexMatic, try or full (depends).

But the only InDesign version that is available to buy is CS6 and according to given information IndexMatic works with CS5.5 only and older versions.

So is there any way to use monthly InDesign with Indexmatic?

Any idea that could help to solve the problem...?

CS6 book sync text box auto resizing

CS6 pages being added to the side of a spread instead of underneath

$

Im working on a book (.indb) in CS6 with lots of separate files. When I flow in my text the master page automatically adds in the correct amount of pages, underneath in facing page format, to the file to accomodate all of the copy. However, when I start adding in images and new pages are required at the end of the file they are being added to the final spread. So, I end up with 1 left hand page and lots of right hand pages making one very wide spread. Whereas it should be adding in the additional pages as spreads underneath each time.

character palette in CS6 flaw!

$

This is bad news. When I select a font onscreen and open the character palette, then click on the font drop down, it is not automatically bringing up the selected font...meaning, it just begins at the very top of the list with 'A'. So...if it is something in the Helvetica family that I want to change to, say, Helvetica Neue, or what have you, I need to scroll all the way down my enormous font list over & over again. God forbid it be a font under 'T'.

Is there any way to correct this issue, or has CS6 just not up to it?!

Thanks.

InDesign CS6 Crash MSVCR100.dll

$

Same issue as this thread:

http://forums.adobe.com/message/4432510#4432510

Our company has purchased Adobe CS6; For our environment, our users are standard, locked down users with no rights to install software; On both of our Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7 64 Bit Enterprise machines, we have 1 drive split into 2 partitions; The C: drive is the main partition where all software is installed and a user has read only access to this drive. The D: drive is the second partition that the user has full rights to. Additionally we use redirected profiles through citrix profile manager to a shared server - app data and temp, along with other folders are redirected.

Had this issue since we attempted to install this for users. We already per other threads figured out the issue with Photoshop (temporarily give user admin rights, change scratch disk from C: to D:, then take away admin rights); The issue that has been around since is with InDesign - the only one we have this issue with. When I try and run the program as a standard user, the splash screen will come up and then crash (on both Windows 7 and Windows XP SP3); The resulting error is an AppCrash with Indesign.exe, referencing module MSVCR100.dll;

****

If the user has administrative privileges, it works;

If I were to create a local user account with standard privileges, it works;

****

Nothing else works - below is a list of what we have tried that failed;

                Running in design on Windows XP SP3 (no changes);

                ****

                The rest were all done on a Windows 7 64 Bit machine:

                Giving user admin rights so that it could open, then turn off the welcome screen with InDesign; Taking away admin rights (so does not appear to be               the welcome screen that is the issue);

                Running in compatibility mode as Windows XP SP3, Running as administrator, and running with a combination of both;

                Giving Full access to the C: drive as modify for a user

                ****

We cannot in our environment give users administrative access to their PC's for many reasons. That seems to be the only thing that fixes it. In the past we've had similar issues with other products but an update usually will fix this, this is still rather new so an update has not been put out by adobe... so looking for any work around that may actually work as this is a major issue.

Confused about content across spreads ID CS5

$
0
0

hello:

I am doing a 40-page document (10 x 4 page spreads) newspaper design and I'm confused about how to handle page content splitting across spreads and numbering. (InDesign CS5)

The publisher wants me to design the layout in 'pull-out' spreads - each company has one or more 4-page spreads, which seems simple enough, but when the content has to flow across spreads, or even between the 'front side' of a spread and the 'back side' of the spread - I'm confused on how to know what page number to direct the reader to - i mean, how do i layout InDesign into 4-page spreads so i can visualize how everything flows? i can see two-page spreads easily enough...it would be nice to be able to flow the content between page 1/2/3/4 of a spread, but also know what final readers' page number we are looking at (for the TOC)...

I think i'm overthinking this..i mean it's almost like I have to design a hybrid readers/printers spread kind of thing and that makes my life and the printers life more difficult lol

thanks for any ideas!

InDesign --> Illustrator, For a Web Design Workflow

$
0

I know we can't be the only team that has grappled with this problem, so here goes:

I work for a company with a graphic design department and a web development team; I am part of the latter. Our graphics team works on Macs using InDesign CS5.5 and their designs come to us in PDF 1.5 (Acrobat 6). The development team uses CS5.5 on Windows. The designers primarily output for print (we do a lot of direct mail), so just about everything is geared for that; they also develop our web layouts, which is how we come to our problem...

When we open graphics' PDF in Illustrator, to isolate say, a background, all the text has exploded into 100+ layers making it difficult to track down all the assets we need for the website. One line of text with a stroke around the letters and a drop-shadow behind all that might look like this:

Layer 1

<Group>

T

S

E

B

HE

T                         (THE BEST, displays on one line)

<group>

<clipping path>

<path>                       (stroke)

<compound path>     (stroke again, not sure why this one is different)

.....

..... (more below)

.....

..... (and eventually...)

.....

<group>                              (drop-shadow group)

See how unruly the layers are?

Is this an InDesign issue, say, how they've set up the file? Or an Illustrator problem, interpreting how it's exported? We've done a lot of web research the past couple of days; we're still scratching our heads, trying to isolate the problem, and improve the current workflow. We tried exporting EPS (level 3) and encountered the same myriad-layers problem.

I really, really hope we're not the only ones with this problem and that someone out there has seen it and beat it. Any help would sure be appreciated!

Regards,

Ansel Taft

Footnotes numbered consecutively across all files in a book

$

Using CS6, I've created a book with 24 chapters. In each chapter, the footnote numbering start with  1.

The author believes the footnotes should be numbered consecutively across all files in a book.

I don't see any option for InDesign to handle that unless I combine all the chapters into a single file. Am I right?

Any resources anyone can suggest which would give us a definitive answer on how footnotes should be numbered?

Thanks,

David

Saving problems

$

0

Since I got the CS6 I have had troubles with saving documents in InDesign. If I have opened a document, made the chanches and wants so save it, I can't save it the proper way by pressing commando+S or going to the menu. The only option I get is to "Save as" and I have to overwrite the old file (or give it a new name). It's really frustrating to not be able to save the document the normal way.

Does anyone have a clue what the problem is? I only use the normal letters, so the naming isn't the problem.
