Re-instalation problems

InDesign CS4 MAC Upgrade from Pagemaker installed in 2009.

Uninstalled some time ago -and deleted Adobe files that seemed no longer needed. (I had removed Photoshop Elements and Dreamweaver on this MacBook before).

Installed Lightroom earlier this year -- no problem-- works fine.

Now I am trying to re-install InDesign (same MacBook) and installation problems are reported. Does not accept serial number and when I uninstall the program it gives a warning that is not done perfectly. Looking at the Adobe InDesign CS4 folder I see a stop sign icon and a handful of empty folders. The Adobe Extension Manager folder was not uninstalled.

Can anyone help me?

Seperating 2-page spreads for printing?

I recently have had trouble with printing my booklets.

I am using 11x17 documents and wish to seperate 2 page spreads for printing?

 

When i currently print it prints the cover page, page 1, seperate but combines the other spreads, with 2 pages per actual printed page.

 

I seperate the files one by one for printing currently but i want t0 know if i have to do that, because it wastes valuable time.

 

Is it a problem with the way i am exporting the file?

 

Please give me your advice as I am open to other ideas to reaching my main goal.

Table Hidden inside textframe

Hi all,

 

For the lengthy table is hidden inside the textFrames,  We've working on the InDesign XML workflow,  eg: One InDesign table has the 68 rows and 13 columns,  that was not visible while importing the xml in InDesign Document.  Manually increasing the textframe size more than 3000 pt,  that hidden table will appeared.

 

This types of table composition will be more complicated in InDesign,  is there any way to composing that table.

Liquid Layout & Alternate Layout

I have a book file that is in "Letter - Half" size (5.5 x 8.5) and I need to change it to a full "Letter" size (8.5 x 11). I've struggled somewhat with Liquid Layout & Alternate Layout. At first I could get them to do anything at all worth doing except change the page size, yet leaving the text field or text box and object boxes the same. What I need is the text boxes and object boxes to expand with change in page size. Additionally it would be nice to be able to get the text box to expand based on the change in the "margins and columbs" adjustments. Would anyone happen to know how to do that?

What I have discovered in fiddling with the "page tool" (shift+p) is that the main reason the text boxes were not expanding was that they were locked. Once I clicked on the two locks for width and highth it fixed one problem, but created another. I now must click on each individual page and unlock each box and in Liquid Layouts click on all four "Pin:"s (Top, Left, Bottom, and Right) on each pages text or object box for things to change with the changing of the page size. There must be a way to automatically select all the Pins, unlocks, and resize with pages height and width boxes for all the pages at once. If I can get that done then the rest is easy. Can anyone help me with that?

InDesign Slide Presentation

I got a InDesign file from a client, layed out in a slide-like presentation style, showing the graphic and text that they would like to use.

 

They would like a final PDF to be used on a table top display. The screen is 22 inches. It will be cycling through the slides on it's own.

 

I normally would create it in PowerPoint or Keynote. What are my options here?

 

Is it better to recreate it in PowerPoint or Keynote? Or if the client needs me to use their InDesign file, what kind of things I will need to consider or setting to modify from within InDesign and Acrobat?

Please help me understand Flexible-Width Columns in CS6

I have a text frame that is 300 points wide. It has two columns, with a 12-point gutter. So the columns are 144 points wide. If I set the maximum value to 200 points, then reduce the size of the text frame to 200 points, I get one column. So far, so good, I get that.

 

But, unlike with fixed-width columns, I am able to make the text frame more narrow, resulting in a single colum that's less than 144 points wide.

 

I thought that the 144 was the minimum, but that's clearly not the case. Can somebody explain?

Keeping Paragraph Styles Separate

Hi, I'm trying to format sub-headings to be included in my Table of

Contents separately from the bullets that precede them in my document.

That is, I want the sub-headings to have a different paragraph style than

the bullets, so the bullets aren't included in the TOC. I can't use a hard

return, as they belong on the same line in the document, but separate in

the TOC.

Will InDesign let me? I've tried inserting Discretionary Line Breaks,

Ending Nested Styles, the Keep Option - trying to Keep the bullet with the

previous paragraph, single-line composer, InCopy assignments, etc. and

nothing works. Whatever paragraph style I make the subheading becomes the

same with + to the bullet, or vice versa.This can't be that

unusual/impossible, separating paragraph styles on the same line is it?

Shouldn't be.

Package Is Missing Links

I have a document with 6 images in it.
When I package the document it only grabs 3 of the images.

All images are linked, no broken links.

Why isn't package grabbing all image links in the document?

 

Hope someone can advise.

Indesign CS6 Frame Fitting Options bug?

I've found that with the recent upgrade to Indesign CS6 there is a bug in the "Frame Fitting Options" for placing images into a frame box. By default the options are set to place the image centered in the box, but when placing an image it plops in at top left... it only seems to plop in centered if I also check the "fit content proportiaonally" which I don't want to do. What's up with this?? I work for a book publisher that publishes image heavy books, so this is a major hassle for me.

Select multiple separate lines in Indesign

I would like to know how to select multiple separate lines of text? For example, selecting the a few words of the first and last line of a paragraph and applying a style? I am trying to apply the same function as cmd+mouse would do in Microsoft Office WORD. Thank you for your help!!

How do you stop the last file from opening on launch?

InDesign CS5 insists on re-opening the last file I had open everytime I launch the app. I have tried making sure that all documents are closed before quitting ID with no success. I have looked through the prefs but can't seem to locate anything that changes this. I am on a Mac running Lion (10.7.4) and have looked for an OS level solution but haven't found anything and no other app is behaving like this. I did search in these forums and haven't found an answer.

 

Anyone out there have any idea or is this an isolated occurrence? Thanks.

CS6 - Font Capture: InDesign.exe - Application Error

Hello all -

 

I recently downloaded the trial version of InDesign for my Windows XP 32 bit machine. However, it has failed to open every time I've tried over the past couple of days. I've spent hours/days researching this on the web, and have found many references to similar problems. But none of the suggested solutions has worked so far. I'm hopeful that someone here can help.

 

Most often, ID simply fails to open. I get the splash screen, but when it gets to "starting up service registry", it shuts down. Sometimes, I get the following error message: "Font Capture: InDesign.exe - Application Error - The exception unknown software exception (0xc00000fd) occurred in the application at location 0x0123bffd." 

 

Some of the solutions I've tried have been: Uninstalling and reinstalling, checking for corrupt fonts (I have none), changing the default printer, switching users, and removing the SING.apln file. There are no preferences for me to change - since ID has never opened (I am a brand new ID user), the Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\Version 8.0\en-US folder only contains a folder named CompositeFont, which is empty. I also read somewhere to delete the SING folder, but I have no such folder (perhaps that only applied to previous versions?).

 

My OS is WinXP Pro SP3 32 bit. I will do my best to provide any addition information that would be helpful.

Interactive PDF - iPad & iPhone Capability

I have this client who is wanting me to create an Interactive PDF form for them (no problem) and put a link on their website for people to view online. However they would like the PDF to be pulled up from an iphone or ipad when needed. I do not have much experience with this, so I don't really know where to begin. Any suggestions? Can someone point me in the right direction?

Placing Visio file in InDesign CS6

I’m trying to place a visio file in InDesign CS6. When I had CS3 a few days ago, I saved the visio file as a .emf file, then placed it into CS3. That worked perfectly. Now that I’ve been upgraded to CS6, a .emf file is not even an option as an importable file. I’ve tried pdf, png, tif, jpg, svg, etc…almost everything on the list, with no luck.

 

My process:

 

When in Visio, I "save as", change file type, then go into InDesign and File, Place.

 

Please help.

Data Merge Shifting Records off the page...?

I am trying to do a data merge to create a member directory, finished size 5.5x8.5

I am doing multiple records (each sized 1.5x.1.5 inches) per document page, and when I  Preview the multiple record layout, it shifts all of the records down about 1 inch, and over to the left about 2. It does not seem to be lining up with anything. My margins for the data merge are set to .3 all around.

 

I have tried using a data source that is a CSV (comma delinated) and also a Text (tab delinated) file.

I have tried creating a new file and reseting the needed info from scratch, to help ensure there wasn't any possible file corruption.

 

Here's a picture of what's happening. Can anyone give me a clue why this shift is happening?

I am using CS6, and have never had this happen to me before with any previous work.

Hyperlinks in Panel Not Visible

I've been working in Indesign CS6 for a couple of months. I have version 8.0 and am running OS 10.7.4.

 

Yesterday, I noticed that my hyperlinks panel was empty although I had created over 100 hyperlinks in that particular file. The hyperlinks were still there and when I exported the file to ePub, and the hyperlinks are still working, but I cannot see the hyperlinks in the panel. I quit Indesign, trashed my preferences (multiple times) but could not get my hyperlinks to appear. I thought perhaps it was a file issue; however, I opened over CS6 files I had worked on over the past few weeks that contained hyperlinks; same deal. No hyperlinks appeared in the panel. I created a new Indesign document and created a hyperlink; same deal, it does not appear in the hyperlinks panel.

 

Here's a snapshot of the panel in my file:

You can see in the second image that my hyperlinks are indeed there. I can see them when I click on the URL field (I think because I set them up as shared), but they do not show up in my panel.

 

I thought trashing preferences would fix this, but it's not.

 

Any thoughts?

open documents is so slow

Hi,

 

I use InDesign CS6 on Mac OS 10.8.1. The app is installed on SSD. The start-up is very fast, but when I want open a document... I see the beachball for 2 seconds before the document (134 kb) was loaded. The document is located on a seperate HD, bu even when I place the document on the SSD... it's the same slow speed during the opening.

emailing a ID document

Help! I have created a newsletter in Indesign 5. I need to email this newsletter in a visual format rather than as a link to a pdf. I don't know how to do this. I am told it needs to be in html format. I use a mac with os lion, I use the mac mail program. The newsletter is uploaded to our website as a pdf. I thought I could email contents of this page but I can't! Desparate for help. Thank you in advance

Very slow page curls in a PDF

I am creating an interactive pdf. I created the swf file, imported it into indesign (CS6) and exporting as an interactive pdf. My pdf is simple, it only contains page curls but they are very slow! No where near as fast as the swf file when viewed in a web browser. Why? And what is the solution?

Fonts and Library

Hi!

 

I have a few questions that are boiling in my mind. I own a copy of InDesign CS6 through Creative Cloud and I'm currently working on a magazine.

 

Questions:

 

1.I have downloaded a font for use but it is restricted due to licensing issues, says the error. The page I downloaded it at states that it is free to use, even for commercial purposes.

Fontname: Royal

http://www.fontspace.com/aldus/royal

I get this error when trying to publish a PDF file.

 

2. Is it possible to create a Library in InDesign with all assets like graphics, text,  and so on and send this file to someone else so he could use all of it. Create all the assets that will be needed for the magazine so to speak.

 

3. Is it possible to link text so it jumps for example to another page?
