Guides and x and y position

$

When I placed guides in ID CS4, a small box showed the x and y position.

Now using Windows 7 on PC with ID 5.5 and when I move a guide, I don't know the x or y position. Yes it shows up above the menu, but is very small and I want numbers by cursor on the guide.

What can I do to get position of x and y by cursor on guideline?

Export Animation from InDesign to Acrobat

Just a few questions on adding/using animations in InDesign...

- Can I added animations to different items on a page? It seems like you can. Which leads up to my second question...

- There's the mini preview in the animation panel and page transition. Generic though. But is there a way to actually preview the effects with the actual content from within InDesign?

- I have added basic animations (e.g. wipe and fade) to a slide presentation I made in InDesign. When I export the file to Acrobat (interactive version, correct?), it doesn't work.

- I did some searches on the web. So far, the threads I found indicate that I should export it as Flash file and place it back into the InDesign layout. Round about way of doing this. It kind or work but choppy results. Is this the only way to get this to work using (InDesign and Acrobat)?

InDesign CS6 Text Wrap increments not accurate?

$

My work jumped from CS4 to CS6 so I don't know if CS5 had the same issue. Anyway. Text wrap (around bounding box) seem to now be very limited. For example, If I have, say a .25 text wrap on the bottom of a object, but I need to change it slightly to .245 the text does not move. The box shows the change, but the text below just doesn't follow suit. CS4 I was able to make tiny incremental changes to the wrap, but it is not working for me now in CS6. Any ideas, answers?

InDesign CS6 crashing on page(s) deletion

Using OS X Lion (latest version) on a new MacBook Pro 15 (not the retina model) and InDesign CS6. Whenever I try to delete a page, or pages, from any document InDesign crashes.

If I manually delete the objects from the page(s) first and then delete the page, it doesn't crash.

This has been happening on a wide variety of existing documents (CS5 ver) as well as newly created CS6 documents.

Any thoughts?

InDesign bleed problem!

Hi All

We have faced a problem in indesign while exporting to pdf; exported pdf with bleeds shows some 'text' outside of bleed. Which is actually comes from the art file placed near the trim that extends to bleed. Its being strange, because no other text or art portions are exported.

FYI: See attachement.

InDesign CS6 Crashes on Startup for Mac OSX Snow Leopard.

I just purchased and installed Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium but InDesign crashes on startup. All other programs work but I can't get anywhere with InDesign. I previously had CS5 Design & Web Premium but uninstalled that from my computer a while back. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't work and even tried using the installation cleanup tool but that did nothing for me. I'm not sure what the issue is for me. Anyone have a solution? I've included that crash report as well, maybe that will help.

Complex data merge in InDesign possible?

Hi,

I would be very grateful if an InDesign guru could help me with a bit of advice on data merge so I can put a case to the Finance Director for spending some money on InDesign!

We are producing a catalogue with lots of prices and product information taken from a database and wanted to know if InDesign CS6 could help. I don't have the programme yet so I can't really tell if it is worth getting the company to buy it!

What we want to do...

  1. We have an Access database with prices and product information on over 1000 products
  2. We want to use this to update all the price and product descriptions in our catalogue so that it is much faster to reprint accurately
  3. We want to do this via a summary sheet which is easier to proof read against, and also issue as an addendum to customers when we have price changes between print runs of the main catalogue

What I think is possible from looking at the InDesign CS6 product description....

  1. Create a "Price and Product Information Summary" document that lists all the product information and prices that we want to merge
  2. Data Merge from the Access database to the above document
  3. Use Link & Place feature to link each bit of information to its correct place in the print catalogue (which will be produced in InDesign as well)

So we run the merge on the Summary document and, when this data has changed, we can open up the main print catalogue and all the prices will be updated.

My estimate is that this will save us over US$2000 per year in wasted time, so you can imagine that the budget approver would be pretty happy to invest!

Thanks

Ben

InDesign CS5 will not import Alpha Channels from images saved in Photoshop CS6

Just searched through the forums to find this thread in the (now-Read Only) Photoshop CS6 Beta forum:

http://forums.adobe.com/message/4310886

Which is exactly the same issue I'm having. I just cropped about a 1000 images with alphas originally created in PS5 and resaved using PS6.

My client still uses CS5 and the images won't recognize the alpha channels in inDesign5.

I see in this thread that it said a fix for older versions of inDesign was being worked on, this was back in April.

Any news on these fixes? (before I open PS5 and resave all these files)

Unwanted frames when importing Word 2010 files

Hi,

I'm having a problem with importing Word 2010 files into InDesign CS5.5 and I was wondering if anyone here could help. A quick trawl of the web has uncovered no solutions.

Even though I use the "Import Options" panel when bringing the file in and am very careful about what I select, Word insists on dragging in a whole extra load of frames. Some are of text boxes placed on to of the main text flow, but others are blank. Even if I deselect the "Import inline graphics" option they still appear. Would anyone know what they are? I think the might be something to do with the placed graphs but they really are a heck of a size. All I want is the main body text and the tables. I know I could save the Word file to plain text and import that (and I do), but we spent a long time setting up match paragraph / character styles between our Word and InDesign files and the effort put into that is now wasted.

I'm sure I used to be able to just bring in the text, tables and styles that I wanted in the old days - does anyone know what's happening?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice offered.

Bounding box area too large for interactive button

$

Hello all,

I am new to InDesign interactive part and I'm creating my first ever interactive file. So the problem is that I have one path (which is a diagonal line basically) made into a button that should work on roll over mode. Now the the bounding box area is so large around it and it will react already when it shouldn't (when the mouse touches the bounding box area).

Is there a way how to manipulate with the empty bounding box area so it wouldn't react or should everything be made of squares?

Cheers,

Egert

When I installed my Creative Cloud Programs via Application Manager, no fonts were installed together with InDesign.

There are no fonts in either the user fonts, the system fonts and at Applications/Adobe InDesign CS6/fonts/ (I'm on a Mac).

Weird bug with guides on master pages

$

Bug:

A spread with single page inherits guides from both pages of the master spread it is based on.

What it looks like:

id_bug_01.png

Steps to reproduce:

  1. File>New>Document...
  2. In dialog choose Print as Intent and B5 as size (Facing pages should be enabled)
  3. Add horizontal guides on both pages of master spread.
  4. Add one more page to the document.
  5. Enjoy the show.

It also does happen if we change the size of a document in a New Document dialog. But not regularly and not with all the presets and sometimes only if we change width.

Once document caught this bug nothing helps to eliminate it: re-save, export to IDML, recreation of all guides, I tried all of it. Guides from both sides of master spread continue to show up.

Checked in InDesign 7.5.3 and 8.0 on Windows 7 x64 and InDesign 7.5.3 on OSX 10.7.4.

PSD shadow in InDesign

I've got a problem with photoshops shadow in InDesign. My PSD has a few layers and the last one (the lowest) is only in black with 75% opacity and with multiply in it. After placing psd file into InDesign the shadow isn't multiply with background. In created pdf I can see that background became lighter everywhere shawdow became darker.

Is there "normal-placing" method to import multiply attribute from photoshop?

blad-cienia.jpg

Here you see what I mean. Left is wrong, right is goot (I placed 2 files, first without shadow, second without photo- only shadow). The right one is with second file selected as multiply in InDesign.

When I write about shadow from PSD I don't mean the shadow effect from InDesign. That effect is generated with whole picture, not only, for example, of bottom of the picture.

how to create "print page" button/action

I'm using IDCS4 to create a PDF portfolio of my photography - one image per page. In text on the master page, I've added clickable links to my website and email. I'd also like to have a text link to print the current page. I've seen it in other PDFs, but don't know how to make that happen. Any suggestions?

Overset text / text threading / little red box / shortcut ??

$

When I have overset text, there is a little red box with an X in it.

I click on it, and then I can "thread" the text into another text box.

However, sometimes it is hard for me to click on that little red box — I click and I click, until FINALLY I get it.

Is there a shortcut ?  They put the little red box RIGHT NEXT to another little square.

is it possible to have an anchored object linked to a paragraph style?

I want to link an anchored object to a paragraph style, so that whenever a paragraph that has a particular style is created, an anchored object is created at the same time. The particular application is to label the associate text with the anchored object. is this possible?

CS5 text wrap fails randomly

$

I've noticed in any and all of my CS5 documents a seemingly random failure of text wrap. Sometimes I will open documents that contain text wraps and some wrapped objects are being ignored, and the text has reflowed as if the object does not have a text wrap on it. If I select the object and bump it one way and then back, the wrap reestablishes. This becomes a serious problem if I'm opening a multiple-page document to print or export it to PDF and there is a random text wrap failure on a page that I'm not looking at. This does not occur to all text wraps in a document--just random ones. I can't figure out why the wrap failure occurs and bumping the object fixes it, but if I'm working on a lot of documents that contain a lot of text wraps (which I do), this unexpected failure can cause a lot of problems when printing for editors or exporting final PDFs for printers. Has anyone else seen this problem?

I'm on a Mac OS 10.5.8 and ID CS5 is up to date.
